Several years ago there was a survival horror JP game in development.. then it got canned... After Alien Isolation, another horror game was put in development, called Jurassic Park Survival. Then.. it got canned.

#GamingNEWS Revenant Hill - Announce Trailer | PS5 & PS4 Games

Here's a very awesome announcement, another game from the team behind Night in the Woods - please leave the controversies aside. I just checked the video's comments and one guy's insentive remarks is worse than the studios keeping going on and keeping the same art style for another game. Don't that guy thinks the team didn't knew the guy...and.. Well, stop. I said no controversies.

I'm just super happy to see another game from them! Love the tone already. (Prequel? Parallel world?)

See for yourself,

So many cat games lately...

Can't wait!!!

#GamingNEWS Alone in the Dark - Announcement Trailer | PS5 Games

 Waitaminute - what IS THIS??!!

A new proper serious standalone Alone in the Dark game!! For real? YES!! Finally, it's about darn time!

This looks pretty good so far. Like a Resident Evil remake-good. And I'm here for it!

The game is set up as a proper continuation of the original trilogy. (Which could still work with the Dreamcast 4th episode sequel, but not the later reboots.) A modern TPS survival horror taking place in the 1920s. I like it!

Now I do actually need a PS5!!

#GamingNEWS The Callisto Protocol - Bande-annonce officielle de gameplay

Finally, a big budget epic horror game (not called Resident Evil). I was missing the likes of Dead Space, Outlast, Obscure and The Suffering this generation...

Here's another kickass trailer from the last state of play:

#CapcomNEWS Resident Evil 4 + Street Fighter 6

Here's some pretty kickass trailers from the latest State of Play! And I gotta say, I like what we got to see.

First up, I can see why Capcom made RE Village and 4 Remake back to back. Looks like they might recycle some assets between games. And I dig it. I can't imagine a remake of RE5 or 6 after this (or make them proper single player puzzle-driven stories). So, why not go after Code Veronica next?

The new weirdly realistic Street Fighter looks pretty good actually.

#GamingNEWS The Quarry - Gameplay Overview Trailer | PS5 & PS4 Games

I forgot to post this one, but that's the latest upcoming game from Supermassive Games, not part of their Dark Pictures Anthology series. Check it out, it looks awesome:

#SEGAnews Sonic Frontiers IGN First - Teaser

This is looking both pretty interesting and intriguing, and a tad bit generic/empty, as far as I'm concerned with open world/sandbox game designs. That's why I usually prefer shorter arcadey-type games. Wait and see...

#STARWARSnews Star Wars Jedi: Survivor™ - Teaser officiel

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor finally revealed! And I know the teaser's basically entirely CGi scenes, but I'm already sold!

Everything looks great, already dig the atmosphere of the sequel!

So I guess this series is officially called "Star Wars: JEDI", heh? I would have found a way to get "order" in there. Like Star Wars: JEDI Survivor Order or osmething. Or keep Fallen Order and not the Jedi part. I mean the Dark Forces series went from DF1 to DF2 to DF: Jedi Knight, JK: Jedi Outcast, JOII: Jedi Academy, etc.

Anyway, enough with the title, here's the trailer:

Only available on next gen consoles! Time to upgrade, folks!

#GamingNEWS Kao the Kangaroo (2022) - Official Announcement Trailer

He's back! Kao the Kangaroo! (The original Dreamcast game was a neat if super-easy Crash Bandicoot-like clone.)

And it seems he's taking a lot of cues from Crash Bandicoot 4,  specifically the art style:

I really dig it. Looks better than any Kao game before! Sign me in!

#MarvelNEWS Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy - bande-annonce d'histoire

Still looking pretty nice if you ask me. Very "Marvel cosmic comics", by that I mean weird, odd, colorful and funny. (Read a book, will ya!)

#GamingNEWS Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach - Trailer | State of Play Trailer

The trailer for the new FNAF is actually pretty good. It looks like this will be the first proper 3D game in the series, where you will actually be able to hide and run around the space.

Plus I kinda dig the whole funky 1980s retro vibe.

Maybe evolving the series into a full 3D Amnesia/Outcast is the best thing to do to keep it fresh and relevant.

As for the new animatronics, they make me think of these fake FNAF films instead of the simpler creepier ones from the earlier games, you know.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach is coming to PC, PS4 and PS5. Although I can see them port it to everything else, later on.

#GamingNEWS Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart – State of Play | PS5

Some brand new Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gameplay footage from the latest State of Play at Sony:

Am I the only one that find "Rivet" (both name and design) absolutely the cutest?

#GamingNEWS Forspoken – Annonce officielle | PS5 et PC

The new game from the FFXV team Square Enix's Project Athia has now been retitled into Forspoken.

Several things changed. People are calling it a new Destiny, imaging this as a "game service" with lootboxes and all.. I still just hope this is a new FFXV-style solo RPG...

Wait and see...

Check out the new trailer:

Coming in 2022!

#FFnews So I heard you like Final Fantasy VII ....

Final Fantasy VII Remake was a huge success! So expect a ton more Final Fantasy VII -specifically.

First up going from PS4 to PS5, FF7R is getting a Yuffie DLC. I ADORE Yuffie, but I'm not too interested in getting some side-character DLC chapter. I loved FFXV and didn't bother with any of the DLC as well.

I kinda find it funny how a secret unlockable character in the original game is now treated as a DLC. I wonder if having played this DLC will be required to get her in the party in the later game (episodes)...

The game is still looking amazing, though.

Meanwhile mobiles will get their share of FF7 with this chibi edition, just like Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition. I guess Square will want to get some FF7 love to the Switch, eventually they're no doubt going to port this mobile game to the Switch like they did with 15 Pocket...

It's interesting how we've come full circle. Want a remake of FF7 closer to the original, both in terms of visual (chibi characters) and RPG mechanics (no action fights, turn based)? Well, then Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is for you!

I like how this might actually remake a "Demake" update of the entire "Compilation of FF7", meaning covering even elements from Before Crisis and Dirge of Cerberus!

Finally there's also some random battle royale game set in Midgar before the events of FFVII due for iOS and Android, but this just looks plain bad...

Square. Capcom. All the other big companies. Stop trying to cash in on the battle royale genre by mistreating your classic IPs. They will never ever get the same success as smaller-scale battle royal original games. You can't turn Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, etc. into the next Fortnite, it's never happening...

#GamingNEWS A few PlayStation State Of Play trailers

Here's a few trailers that caught my eye from Sony's PlayStation State Of Play. I'm posting the FF stuff apart from this post FYI.

Gameplay footage for the new Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach. It does look neat, I might add.

I can't wait for Oddworld: Soulstorm! Hopefully we finally get a 100% original Oddworld game afterwards...

Otherwise, nothing much. Still no real reason to upgrade to PS5, fanboy reasons aside. Never get a game system early in its life. Plus no real exclusives. The jump to PS1->2 or ->3 had bigger impact. From PS4 to 5 it's just more powerful systems, nothing new gameplay or concept wise.

#GamingNEWS FINAL FANTASY XVI – « Awakening » | PS5

Final Fantasy games come in all shapes and sizes. Often the product of being developed one after the other, from the reactions of one game to the next, handled by different teams, different directors...

I can dig my share of Final Fantasy games. I've played them in all sorts of strange order. And while I distanced myself from the series (and RPGs in general) for a long while I came back to XV, which had its fair share of problems but also lots of things that resonnated in me, someone who only liked the older pre-FF8 games. Lots of FF1 influences, for an example.

Anyway, why this long introduction? Because I was hyped for a new game. I was looking forward a new FF for a while, the FF7 Remake only helped crave even MORE for a brand new experience. Loving the new direction of FFXV and the FF7 Remake. Less Lightning drama AND linear exploration, and more mini-sandbox filled with mini-hubs to explore. A return of side dungeons and bosses. Etc.

These games might not be connected, story-wise. But they are as far as development go.

Everyone knows FFXV started as a spinoff, Versus XIII. But did you know around the movie Spirits Within flopped, Squaresoft almost went bankrupt only to become Square Enix after an acquision, and that's why they started making sequels to their games and quickly improvised X-2? The mixed reception of FFVIII made Square launch 3 teams on simulatenous projects, those would become: - a return to classic medieval FF which became FFIX, an even more modern and action-packed FF than 7 and 8 which became FFX and an online MMO which became FFXI. That's right these three started dev at the same time, which spawned the rough current three different teams that work on FF games.

I like FFXV's team. They like to explore new ideas while honoring the past. The perfect blend for modern Final Fantasy in my eyes, which worked great for FF7 Remake.

There's also the legendary Final Fantasy XII team, in my eyes the most creative, characters, lore and story-wise. They're behind the Tactics games and Vagrant Story (and it showed in XII).

And then there's the MMORPGs team (Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XIV)... Which I know people love, but I don't think they fit a solo experience game.

Here's the trailer:

Square Enix provided a first look at Final Fantasy XVI during the PlayStation showcase. It’s coming exclusively to PS5 (and PC?).

So far? Err.. it all looks so bland and generic. I'm afraid the customizable MMORPG-ness is showing up. And I hope I'm wrong. But for now, it's a return to classic FF medieval world... and colorless and generic. The only aspect I like is this seems to hint at the passage of time and the main character growing older. It just looks like XI/XIV mixed with Dark Souls ... I'm not sold.

And the XV team had such a fun tech demo/FF pitch a few years back, the infamous "agni's philosophy demo tech":

Now that looks dope, fun and colorful! And more Final Fantasy-esque. I wish this was the new game. In fact I hope this is still on the table, maybe for a FFXVII - let's dream a bit!

#GamingNEWS BALAN WONDERWORLD | A Spectacular Preview - Announcement Trailer

All new game announcements might have only be made online, but it's not like it changes anything for us gaming fans overseas.

Anyways, nothing really caught my eye in a real long while. Nothing from big name publishers, Ubisoft, Sony and the likes...

And I haven't found any good captivating new indie titles for my taste.

Just while I was missing the A-tier/C-tier games from past generations (we still got some B-movie equivalents in games, thanks japan - specially Swery and Suda productions), here comes Yuji Naka - creator of NiGHTS and Sonic, and Naoto Ohshima, Sonic's original designer as well!

During the virtual Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase event, a long-rumored new platformer from Square Enix was revealed to be this new Yuji Naka creation. It's titled Balan Wonderworld. It looks and feels like a NiGHTS spiritual successor, in a more action platformer fashion like Billy Hatcher. Check it out, it looks really fun and original:

Man, finally something to get hyped about! Coming to most consoles at a later date.

#GamingNEWS Oddworld Soulstorm - Announcement Trailer | PS5

We already had announcement of this one and some info and bits. But now we also know Oddworld is back! Oddworld: Soulstorm is coming to the PlayStation 5.

Here's to the return of Abe in this enhanced/remake!
