#Design - CustomCoverArt MD Beyond Zero Tolerance, MS Electronic Dreams & MS Silver Sonic The Crystal Islands

Please! Do not ask for these! This was a personal job, not outsourcing the work to other people. If you want me to work out something for you, I will do so for money only.

Got some repros of unreleased and hacks, so here's some recent custom cover art I made for these projects.

#Design - CustomCoverArt MD Sonic Gaiden & Sonic Halloween Edition

Please! Do not ask for these! This was a personal job, not outsourcing the work to other people. If you want me to work out something for you, I will do so for money only.

I got made some Mega Drive physical repros, of some Sonic hacks I really like. The pretty old but classic Sonic Gaiden by Yuski as well as the recent awesome Sonic 1 Halloween Edition. Of course that meant I got an excuse to make some new custom case covers.

#Design - CustomCoverArt MD Streets of Rage 4 & DC Sonic Frontiers

Please! Do not ask for these! This was a personal job, not outsourcing the work to other people. If you want me to work out something for you, I will do so for money only.

These last ones are just for me. I wanted a proper SoR 4 Mega Drive mockup game case, which I started from the Limited Games bonus cover. And a Dreamcast Sonic Frontiers using some very cool art I saw on twitter and using Sonic Frontiers Dreamcast mods for the screenshots.

#Blog Can you say GAIARES???

Here's a longtime-coming new release from Strictly Limited, the re-release of GAIARES for the Sega Mega Drive:

It looks fantastic, great loot.

I love how we both get a reprint of the iconic Ad T-shirt as well as an interview with the guy from the commercial.

And now I can complete my Renovation Games collection.

#Blog Getting some new homebrew Mega Drive and NES titles

Just received a few new homebrew titles from Second Dimension. For both the NES as well as the Mega Drive.

Most importantly, the long-awaited Eyra, the Crow Maiden.

This year's been mostly new homebrew titles for me, very little "current gen" games... Oh,well.

#Blog Mega Man Wily War SE

I finally received the re-release of Mega Man: Wily War. One of the rarest and most expensive Pal/Jap Mega Drive releases, which finally received a new print of cartridges last year by Retro Bit (and other limited physical releases companies).

I actually had a custom repro made a few years ago, but it feels good to have this "Special Edition", filled with bonus content. Check it out!

#Blog The MEGA #GOSEGA Sega celebration post of 2021

So I meant to work on this post this entire year, and finally end up writing this the last two days of 2021..  But at least it's still 2021 so it's technically still the year-long celebration of Sega's 60 years of activity. Aka #GOSEGA

This year I didn't bother (yet) with the new consoles. I didn't bother as much with current game releases, outside of compilation collections. I mostly bought and played on old Sega systems. I played a ton of Sega Master System and Mega Drive/Genesis. I had my Saturn sessions here and there. And I kept going back to the Dreamcast whenever.

We started the year getting a brand new Sega system, the Astro City Mini

And while Sonic made his absence ominous this year, aside from teasers, a trailer for a new film and a port of an older title, we got to see the return of famous Sega Classic icons! Such as a new Alex Kidd, 30 years in the making! And we got a new Streets of Rage as well as a remake of Panzer Dragoon! Several new Monster World spiritual successors and updates, like Aisha in Monster World!

I followed the homebrew scene closer to keep an eye on new Mega Drive and Master System titles. (More on that BELOW!)

I also finally grabbed a super-cute Sega Mega Drive Mini. I was able to find locally all editions of the Game Gear Mini.

But I knew this year I had to finally get my hands on all remaining Sega Systems. You see, I started with the Sega Mega Drive (1, then 2), got a Master System and a Saturn later, was here for the launch of Dreamcast. Game Gear, Nomad, heck I even got a Sega Pico at some point. But I noticed I was only missing a few odd iterations (only counting official Sega-licensed systems and partners such as Atari Games and TecToy).

So I planned and searched for some remaining odd consoles throughout the year. I ordered a Master System 3 from some ebay/Mercado Libre equivalent.

And slowly, piece by piece, I completed the collection.

#Blog Game restoration episode 2

So I recently got my hands on a copy of Home Alone 2 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. A usually not that great game/super rare and expensive title.

As a fan of these two classic Christmas films and fan of the first game on the same system, I always wanted to grab this one. But the fact this was super expensive never really motivated me to get it.

But I recently found someone selling this one with an universal game case+cheap print of the cover on a pretty cheap and affordable price. So I finally jumped the gun.

What arrived was the game with an awful universal game case and really bad print of the front cover only...

So I decided to take it into my own hands to restore this one:

 Ugh..

The only authentic aspect is the actual game cart..

This reprint is so bad it's both blurry and pixelated. ..

So I remade the cover in photoshop with the cover from the DVD release. I updated it according to online scans, made a better side design, etc.

And here's the end result with a brand new Sega game case (thanks to PixelHeart for these!):

I always "brand" these. My goal here is not to pass these mockup recreations as authentics. But just to revamp my collection to have things look nice and proper.

That's it!

#Blog Game restoration

Here's a look into a little hobby of mine.

Found a cheap second hand copy of an old Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) game.

It was in very poor condition. The game case(and cartridge) were all dusty, dirty and faded. The cover was heavily damaged by water and whatnot.

I made one of my usual cover mockup designs to replace it. All new print and in high res.

I'm never trying to be disingenuous with these. So they're always signed on the side and on the back.

I cleaned the box entirely with alcohol (and the same with the cart not pictured here).

And here's the result: like Brand New!

Another job well done, now I can sit this one in my collection, proudly.

#Design - CustomCoverArt DC Resident Evil VIII, PC The Shore & MD Rouge the Bat In Sonic 1

Please! Do not ask for these! This was a personal job, not outsourcing the work to other people. If you want me to work out something for you, I will do so for money only.

Here's a few custom cover art I made this past month, for all kinds of reasons.

I saw this fantastic render of Ethan from Resident Evil and I knew I had to make a mockup for the Dreamcast as well.

I love me some H.P.Lovecraft-inspired games. Here's a mockup I did for a recent Steam release.

One of my favorite Sonic 1 hacks, the Rouge sprite is juste super cute. I got a custom repro cartridge, so I decided to make a cover for it.

#Blog The Sega Mega Drive Mini

So I was finally able to get my hands on a Sega Mega Drive Mini (Sega Genesis Mini, for y'a Americans).

It's so tiny and super cute!

Here it is next to an actual Mega Drive I:

And just for kicks, all the current main "Mini" plug and play consoles, and a Dreamcast pile for size comparison:

Here's a quick easy done mockup cover for the hack Sonic 2 Retro Remix. Since nobody sells repros of this one with covers, somehow...

Please! Do not ask for these! This was a personal job, not outsourcing the work to other people. If you want me to work out something for you, I will do so for money only.

Here's a few custom covers I made for some Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games. An hack that needed a cover for a repro. And two random "fake" mockup concepts just for fun. Enjoy!

#Blog The Bubsy Collection

Yeah. You read that right.
Without even trying, I just noticed I ended up having the “Bubsy Collection”...
It all started with the relatively “okay” Bubsy ports on the Mega Drive:

Morbid curiosity made me grab a copy of Bubsy 3D in a secondhand market:
Honestly, once of the worst games I’ve ever tried.
Then we got a random modern 3D sidescroller Bubsy nobody asked for:
And out of nowhere came and went a crowdfunding campaign for another new game... and without much fanfare, a new game was just released, a runner from the crew behind the Bit.Trip series:

And you know what, it might just be the best title in the entire series. It’s actually decent, playable and more fun than any previous titles!
BUT waitaminute.. how did I end up with so many Bubsy games...!?!?!
