Here's the first proper trailer for the upcoming Don Mancini-produced Chucky trailer! Ignore the reboot, continue this long-running creator-owned horror franchise:
I like what we see so far! Going back to the roots. A simpler start, but we're promised a continuation of Curse and Cult (with the return of Fiona Douriff and co).
Listen, I'm a huge fan of Mark Hamill voicework, I mean Skips from Regular Show is everything to me moreso than the Joker himself. But even Hamill talent and the presence of the always lovely Aubrey Plaza can't save this Don Mancini-less Chucky reboot, not to be confused with the actual continuation of the original series on an unrelated SyFy tv series.
Check it out:
This just reeks of "what's hot now", like Terminator Genisys. An all-controlling killer app. Really? Just make it a standalone original horror film! But since they knew that premise would stand on its own legs, hence the Child's Play reboot...
Here's the reboot nobody asked for, even the original creator and his original stars are bashing it before release (because it might compromise his plans for a Chucky TV series continuation..), but don't worry Orion Pictures only got rights to the visuals and the Child's Play name and story.
And by story, I mean the tale of a AI killer robot-doll that will end up using the cloud to control a swarm of robot-Chucky dolls... Doesn't... sound... very Chucky.. at all... Why not simply rename this something else? Oh, yeah, just to use the familiar brand brand to sell some studio execs' nephew's unused script. Sigh...
Aside from Aubrey Plaza (playing a mom now! How time has passed...), nothing is really making me want to see this bore-fest. I feel like I've seen the entire boring film, aside from missing (CGi) jump scares (probably).
The trailer for my most highly awaited horror film of the year - Cult of Chucky! - is out!!
Check this out:
After the great "reboot" the last film was (yes, it was technically a "sequel", but I'm saying a reboot in the simplest of form - to bring back Chucky, with a sort of-standalone story), this one seems to feature a lot more references and allusions to the previous films.
The film will be a straight-to-video release on October 3. Can't wait!!!
The year just started, and already we're getting a teaser for my most anticipated film of the year - sorry Star Wars!
Cult of Chucky - not a reboot, but an actually all-new sequel to this classic cult horror franchise! Here's the new teaser trailer:
The film's expected for this Halloween. And here's the official synopsis:
Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years,
Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not
Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces
a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions —
an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a
string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to
wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent),
Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to
Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany
(Oscar®-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do
anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil
doll.
If like me you adored Curse of Chucky, but were kinda let down or confused by the various ending epilogues (so Nica's just gonna end in an asylum now? what happened with the little girl Alice in the end? was that her grandma awakening in the end? what about Andy???) - well, GOOD NEWS, everybody!
Don Mancini, Chucky's creator, just wrote on twitter:
To the fans who've asked questions about Alice and the end of #CurseofChucky: All will be answered in part 7!
— Don Mancini (@RealDonMancini) December 2, 2013
It doesn't confirm the film but it seems it might have been greenlighted behind the scenes, or at least worked on.
Awesome!
Can't wait!
I'll take more episodes of this continuation than a remake any day. Did you know Mancini's probably the last horror creator still working on his own franchise at the moment? All the others have been either taken through several studios/different crews/remades/or rebooted!!
There's a new Chuck film coming up? Why didn't anyone tell me??
Curse Of Chucky will be released on October 8 this year, after so many years and rumors since the last film back in 2004.
It will be once again directed by its creator, Don Mancini.
The story will be a direct sequel to Child's Play 3 and therefore a prequel to Bride. Brad Dourif will also reprise his role as Charles Lee Ray's voice. And film is a return to the R-Rated roots.
And here's the trailer:
Personally I would take this over a big budget Hollywood reboot anyday! It's still being made by the same folks being the series, simply because they love Chucky and wanted to make another one. I won't be making much money I'm sure, but it's just for the love of it and for the fans. Unlike a remake which would have nothing to do with the original crew and be a simple copy/paste by uncreative people. (just look at the new Nightmare on Elm Street--)
It's coming directly on home releases this October after hitting a few specific theaters & festivals along the way.
Continuing my reviews of Horror-related stuff.
Here's more Hack/Slash!
This time featuring a crossover with Chucky, which was in fact already collected in the Omnibus I reviewed here, but wasn't part of the earlier TPB volumes (1 & 2) it collected.
Pheeew...understood?
A'right!...'nuff introduction, moving on~
"Ade Due Damballa. Give me the power, I beg of you.
Leveau mercier du bois chaloitte.
Secoise entienne mais pois de morte.
Morteisma lieu de vocuier de mieu vochette.
Endelieu pour du boisette damballa Endelieu pour du boisette damballa Endelieu pour du boisette damballa"
If you're an horror fan, you recognised Child's Play's famous voodoo spell.
A classic movie moment.
Here's the opening of the very first movie: (well, the important part only)
With those words, Charles Lee Ray transferred his soul into a Chucky doll.
Oh, you noticed it isn't the exact same words as above? That's because this is the human-to-object voodoo ritual.
The one above was the opposite, object-to-human transfer.
"Ade due damballa. Give me the power I beg of you.
Secoise entienne mais pois de morte.
Morteisma lieu de vocuier de mieu vochette.
Endonline pour de boisette damballa!
Secoise entienne mais pois de morte. Endelieu pour de boisette damballa! Endelieu pour de boisette damballa! Endelieu pour de boisette damballa!"
What kinda language is that?
It may come out as french for non-french speakers, but it is in fact an old form of Haitian Creole.
Which fans translated to:
"To the almighty Damballa, give me the power I beg of you!
To the mercy of my soul.
To the point of my death.
Hear me out of from my condemned voice."
The movie's mythos is based on old Haitian Voodoo religion-legends.
And Damballa is a snake-god, to whom Chucky asks and begs to help him save his soul.
