Manga NEWS! Battle of the Planets - reborn!
You probably wouldn't guess it... but I'm a huuuuuuuuuge Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets fan!!
Now, I'm not here to talk about the classic anime series...or the great comic book revival. But about the CGi movie that has been in development hell for a very long time.
IMAGI studio's been on this CGi Gatchaman movie since 2004.
Then had problems with licensing...
So they released TMNT instead before.
Later, a teaser/trailer was shown after that... But they started having monetary troubles..
So they had a more profitable Astroboy movie out which helped them survive for a while.
And they almost went bankrupt in 2009.
The movie couldn't hit theaters this year (of 2010) as announced... But thanks to new investors, the Gatchaman CGi movie is back on track~
Slated for a 2011 release now, they have put up a new sneak peak teaser online at their own website!
Woow! It looks..fun! Great!
Love the design, simplistic tones and bright colors!
Also the Gatchaman(s) look great!
Specially the costume, a lot closer to their original design~
Here's the previous teaser trailer that was shown at the Anime Expo 2009:
It was darker, closer to TMNT.
I didn't like their costume in this one, too dark, hi-tech and similar to their design in the 90s Gatchaman OVA.
And finally for the fun, a teaser from 2007:
Gatchaman GO!!
"A world in chaos, an alien evil, a lone warrior is found, earth's last hope, five shall rise - Gatchaman."

I'm more sad about the fact Alex Ross isn't involved at all!
ReplyDeleteAlex Ross' been the force behing everything-Gatchaman lately! Be the rights being assigned under only one person again (they were spread across a lot of different companies, be it America or Europe/Africa/Asia!)
And he's the one who's directed all the recent comics as well!
(yep, I'll talk about these in "not" a very long time from now~)
Alex Ross shouldn't do just that, another artwork. (he's already done so many counting the DVDs, the comic covers...etc..)
ReplyDeleteBut DIRECT the whole project! That's what he did to the comic! So it came out great, faithfull and fun!
