This one will also be a Japanese movie (like the recently announced Ranma, Phoenix Wright and Harlock) rather than an American butcher-job...
One of my all-time favorite classic mangas is getting the treatment this time.
Rurouni Kenshin!
Kenshin, for the ones of you who don't know, is a story about this self-titled young retired Samurai living in the Meiji Era. (after the long Edo period, Meiji marked the time when Japan decided to live the old rules away, start opening his culture to the outside world and progress and Samurais became obsolete)
This manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki also generated a pretty decent anime (with too much fillers though) and some pretty popular and successful OVAs. (too kinda dark-ysh for my tastes...)
Warner Bros is actually behind this film, though besides that it's an entirely Japanese production.
Studio Swan will take care of making the film, directed by Keishi Ōtomo and starring Takeru Satoh (Kamen Rider Den-O) as Kenshin and Emi Takei as Kaoru.
And here's the teaser trailer:
It's actually looking prettycool.
The movie's sheduled for a August 25, 2012 release date in Japan.
From what I've read, the staff aims to release the film internationally and eventually make a seriesout of this. (kinda like the Cutey)

Always loved Kenshin!^^
One of my all-time favorite mangas! :D
It's the first time I've heard about this movie! I honestly can't wait!
Knowing French otakus (I live in Switzerland) I guess this will be released on DVD less than 3 months after its release in Japanese theaters, or something like that :P
The movie's looking a bit closer to the original OVA rather than the manga, a bit more serious/realistic.
Crossing fingers, let's hope this turns out great!
