CBR The Heckler

In the mid-80s, Keith Giffen created a wise-cracking unusual oddball superhero that allowed him to criticize and explore the comic book medium with the 4th wall breaking loony character wearing a green spandex costume, Ambush Bug.

In the mid-90s, he then created a wise-cracking unusual oddball superhero that allowed him to criticize and explore the comic book medium with the 4th wall breaking loony character wearing a yellow spandex costume this time, The Heckler!

ComicPageOfTheWeekend: The insult that made a man out of "Mac"

The other day I was reading a Batgirl issue from the 2000s... What surprise it was when I found in it one of those old stereotypical Charles Atlas ads in it.
Do they still print those? Was it a joke? April's Fool?
Anyway, this made me realize I never posted any Charles Atlas comic ad on my blog until now.

Enjoy!

Drawings - The Prince

This is my (poor) attempt to capture Prince of Persia 2008 game's amazing colors and feel with a cartoony drawing :P

Lately, I've been in a constant PoP mood~

VGR Duke Caribbean

With Duke Nukem 3D's success, expansions were inevitable. (not too shy of being the first game to have done lots of things as seen in its review, probably making all these some of the earliest form of expansions PC games have known as well)

This add-on is actually the 2nd developed by Sunstorm Interactive.
And it takes Duke (and the player) to a much needed change of settings.

Fake LUKE CAGE movie trailer

Here's what a bunch of fans and the "Old Spice Guy" came up with.
A real trailer to a fake Luke Cage movie!

Luke Cage - Fan Teaser Trailer With Isaiah... par Eklecty-City

What d'you guys n gals think?

Epic?
Too much?

I know it needs more yellow 70s shirts and tiaras around.

Movie NEWS! Rise of The Planet of the Apes

Unrelated picture is almost related to this post...almost...

There's a new Planet of the Apes movies coming up? I didn't even knew that! XD

Rise of The Planet of the Apes seems to be another one of Hollywood' famous prequels.

E3 NEWS! Trailers

With the E3 convention on, I thought it was best to start sharing some of the new (upcoming) games trailers.
FPS, platformers, beat 'em alls, fighting games, we got 'em all!
From sequels to adaptations...it seems original titles are making scarce with the time..

Comic NEWS! DC Reboot...not an actual reboot?

It seems DC Comics reboot in September, following Flashpoint, will not be an actual reboot afterall..

E3 Gamin' NEWS! Konami goes compilation crazy

At their own press conference, Konami just announced they'l be released lots of compilations soon.

All will be quick HD remakes (not fully remakes, yet HD resolutions, etc..). And all will be made available for both PS3 and Xbox 360.

First up will be the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.
This "HD collection" will offer Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker all on the same compilation. (that last one was a PSP game previously which will now be adapted for home systems).
This will be out in November 2011, wtih all new controls, achievements, new improved audio, etc..

Then, in 2012, a Zone of the Enders HD Collection.
An HD collection containing Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner. Which is a good thing for gamers, since those are good mecha games that weren't very well known originally.

And finally, later next year, the SIlent Hill Collection.
Which, as popular and well liked those games are will be the least interesting compilation. It will only contain Silent Hill 2 and 3 "retouched" in HD. No Silent Hill 1, seriously guys??

Some screenshots of the unreleased (leaked?) Wonder Woman TV pilot

Yes, we all know that modern Woman Woman TV series got cancelled (maybe for the best?).

But some never-seen-before screencaps from the pilot just surfaced. (probably from a leaked source...still can't find a copy of the unreleased pilot on torrents site for the moment, but let's cross fingers!)

And it's a great occasion to see if the actress Adrianne Palicki would have been a good Wonder Woman!
The plot and direction might have been pretty off rails... but she could look the part, couldn't she?
(Click on the pics for larger resolutions)

I'm just glad to see the actual "blue underwear" look was kept on even if we'll never get to see this show.
It's great to see people try to capture the original iconic look in these adaptations and not simply ignore it as it's more usually the case.

Still, it's maybe for the best this wasn't picked up by the channel...

Gamin' NEWS! new Batman: Arkham City trailer

Finally, so much time passed since we had last any news or infos about this upcoming new Bat-game, Batman: Arkham City.

We finally got a new trailer showcasing Catwoman plus the confirmation Catwoman will be playable in Batman: Arkham City!

Sure, she looks a bit trashy (err..like the whole Arkham Asylum/City games, dontcha think?). And some things don't make much sense, like her sliding around, her unzipped zipper, the "kiss" move...but...well, Catwoman playable in Batman: Arkham City!! Isn't it great?

I'd love (and fans would probably as well) to be able to play with a Nightwing, or Robin, or Batgirl..but Catwoman will be enough to please us so far :D

VGR PoP: Two Thrones

Taking directly after the previous PoP Warrior Within, The Two Thrones is the direct sequel and the final chapter in the "Sands of Time" series.

Sure, Ubi decided to ignore a perfectly closed and well rounded series to offer fans more spinoffs/episodes (I blame the fanboys). But was TT a good closing act to a well loved trilogy of modern platforming games?
What's good about it, what's bad about it?
Brand new review, below!

Comic NEWS! Ultimate DC?!

From JLA #1

The DC Universe rebooted?

I wasn't gonna blog about this, since I'm not one to fall into "viral marketing" or such pointless hype-fuelling systems.
But after seeing so much divided opinions on the web since this announcement, I guess I'll have to join in the fun as well and give you my side of things to come.

This teaser picture was released a bit earlier. It's a teaser showcasing the "changes" that will occur after the current event FLASHPOINT. (which is about the Earth being all wrong, thanks to the Reverse Flash, the Flash is lost in a completely different planet that the one he's used to, Booster Gold drops in this anomlay after a time travel, the Flashpoint-heroes are trying to deal with these "invaders" or anomalies if you want, etc..)

It seems our heroes won't be able to correct completely the universe..or is it?

What we do know so far:
- Co-editor in chief Jim Lee is currently redesigning the entire DC library of characters (for some reason?)
- Other co-EIC Dan Didio said it's a great time for DC Comics, what with all the fanbase, people reading comics currently, the synergies between comics, games, movies/tv shows and movies... A perfect starting point to deep in the DCU
- A lot of major comics (their entire lineup?) are starting all over their numbering, amongst them will be: Batman #1, Superman #1, Wonder Woman #1, Birds of Prey #1, Green Lantern #1 and upcoming new titles Aquaman #1, Hawkman #1...
- This teaser above seems to be spawning from Flashpoint' changes... (Cyborg included in a JLA lineup?)

What we do not know and can only speculate upon:
 - DC will reboot their universe along the current popularity of the Batman/Dark Knight and upcoming Green Lantern movie
- Geoff Johns did say an Aquaman title and Hawkman would be launched after Brightest Day (but this Aquaman #1 doesn't seem to be penned under his writing)
- This could as easily be a Flashpoint spinoff/Aftermath similar to how Marvel had "Decimation" after "House of M"
- This is a partial reboot like WW had on her own title recently (remember the Jim Lee redesigned leather jacket-ed WW?) or Zero Hour
- This is just another event following Flashpoint and not definitive
- This might be the launch of an "Ultimate" line for younger readers, to help out fresh years of continuity?
- It's not just a change in costume designs.. They all look sorta younger
- Superman looks strangely Earth One-ysh, like JMS' take in that graphic novel taking place in a younger alternate universe
- lots of V shaped necklines
- They didn't use other (better) artists such as Alex Ross or George Pérez to redesign groups or different kind of characters...just 100% Jim Lee

What contradicts a reboot:
- It would detract from Grant Morrison's multi years long storyline currently taking form in Batman & Robin, Batman Inc., etc.. You wouldn't go against a famed renowned well liked good writer.
- Geoff Johns wouldn't reboot all his years of writing Green Lantern, even if he's the one assigned to Green Lantern #1 (bye bye Blackest Night & co?)
- Risk to alienate tons of fans all around the world by losing years of characters development & etc.. (Barbara Gordon back to Batgirl and not Oracle? what about new announced Birds of Prey #1? no more Red Robin, Damian Wayne, etc..)
- contradicts already announced publishing series (new JLI title, Etrigan on-going, etc..) and marketing plans (Retrospective one-shots - stories taking place in the past of the DCU such as a Justice League 90s in the JLI days, Batman 70s/80s, etc..)
- what about the current on-going storylines? Like Gail Simone's Birds of Prey or Dan Jurgens' Booster Gold? Or Doomsday in Superman books? Wonder Woman on-going "fake" reboot?

What might prove it's a reboot:
- Didio sort of said it.
- Looks like the actual DCU, spinning off Flashpoint rather than an actual Ultimate line
- lots of year passed since Crisis on Infinite Earths in '85
- lots of different interpretations of the current DCU around (with the cartoon Young Justice, the movies, the 52 alternate universe,..), too much?

Anyway, it's too early to be sure what this is really about. Real reboot? Fake reboot?
I used to think the current DC universe was quite easily understandable and accessible...More so than ever.
(with comics like DCU Legacies even clearly up certain facts..)
Jim Lee already redesigned everybody for the MMORPG DCOnline...did he got bored and redo everyone? Are those leftovers? Did he just doodle more designs, Didio passed around, exclaimed "Hey! Nice redesigns! We should use those, let's reboot!" ???

I guess we'll have to wait and see...
(this might just prove to be simply costume redesigns for no reason...or for a Flashpoint Aftermath with Barry Allen/The Flash trying to correct what's left over..or an alternate Ultimate line...will we end up with 2 Birds of Prey book, one by Simone in-continuity and a #1 in an Ultimate universe - since she isn't writing that BoP #1??)

(that's what I hope at least...don't reboot just yet! the current DCU is well established and loved and most adaptations are even based around it *crosses fingers for the best*)

Deadpool is patrolling YOUR streets!

Either Deadpool finally made it past the 4h wall...or some loony is kinda taking the whole "Super heroes" a bit much seriously.

Anyway, a guy's "protecting the streets" of Wenatchee, in north-central Washington city. A city of approximately 30,000 residents.
He's donning so by doning Deadpool's trademark costume and posting flyers all over the street.

Nowadays, it's not uncommun to see "real life" superheroes in small towns. What with all their popularity these days and all those movies Hollywood keeps putting out.
But usually they make their own super hero identity.
This guy decided to go for Marvel Comics' own "Merc With A Mouth". (Disney/Marvel will probably send him a lawsuit by the end of the week)
This is dangerous PR for Marvel, on one hand he's doing free advertisement for one of their B-Listers..on another, this could backfire...imagine the press and the medias all over Marvel if this guy ended up dead or beaten in a dark alley...yuck...

Wenatchee's Deadpool said he chose his character "because I allied with his humor and his ideal that what once was bad can become something better and good. .... And not his outlook on heroism or his methods." [...] Deadpool said the idea to dress up and help people "just came to me one day."
He acknowledged, however, that the costume thing has its drawbacks. It makes him hot when the sun's out, and it seems to put some people off.
"I tried to help a woman out of the rain the other day and she didn't really want to take my umbrella," he said. "I think she was kind of intimidated."
Deadpool has been putting up flyers around town so people know what he's up to and won't be alarmed when he rushes to help them. He asks anyone who needs help with just about anything to contact him via email at ncwdeadpool@hotmail.com.

So, you wanna help and picked up the crazy killer/psychopath/mercenary from Marvel's library? The walkin' lunatic, the regeneratin' degenerate?
(I'm waiting for the moment he'll declare it's because he read my Heroes! parody)

Anyway. we'll all sleep better knowing there's DEADPOOL patrolling ANOTHER city than ours :P
Ha!

(your costume rocks!)
(and can you confirm you're not actually working for Marvel, simply doing some viral marketing for an upcoming movie??)

"Hello l~aaady..."
*ignores*
"Awww..." :(

Outcast Studios - LIVE DRAW NIGHT May 2011

So, last night at the Outcast forums, we had another one of our "Live Draw Nights", where a dozen or so comic fans spend hours drawing characters after characters.

http://outcaststudios.com/forums/
It's a very fun challenge, it provides such an interesting and challenging practice session.
It's divided into 4 hours, were we:
- Draw 5-10 minutes characters on the first hour
- We draw half hour sketches the second hour
- Had an interesting rule in the 3rd one, do a "costume swap"
- Finish the last 4th hour with a much more challenging and complete drawing, based on someone's cosplay (this time, it was a pretty professional Iron Man cosplay)

There were some very interesting choices amongst the subject, they weren't even all comic book-related!

Let's check out some of the pics I've drawn last night, if you please!

AtoZ - G is for... GOLD like Booster Gold

Eyz' ComicBook Alphabet Challenge!
Today, G is for... GOLD like Booster Gold!!

I simply had to draw Booster at some point. I guess I surprised some of my usual watched when I didn't use him for "B", heh? :P

ComicPageOfTheWeekend: Plastic Man and Giffen's guys

I told you last time I'd love to see the Ambush Bug tag along Plastic Man more often...
But I'd love even more to see Keith Giffen's own Ambush Bug tag along his other 4th wall breaking nutjob The Heckler even more...
And when you put all those three together, well, it's even tons of time better! :D

Sidenote: This is the only time the Heckler (re)appeared, outside his own miniseries. -sigh-

Drawing some cards

Here's some recent drawings I did. Thought it could be nice to share them on the blog :P

I've been reading lots of Spider-girl lately.
Thought I should finally try drawing her for once :P

And for some reason, drawing the Spider-girl above made me think of Evangelion. (was it the short hair?)
Then I realized how little Rei drawings I did or were in my deviantArt gallery.

So, here's one more!

And finally the last one.
One more of these "card"-type pics, and I'll stop, promise!

Thought it could be fun drawing Death herself!

(Read Neil Gaiman SANDMAN-related comic books!)

That is all~
Enjoy :'3
