CBR DC Comics Presents: Mystery in Space
This one shot was done for a very specific reason.
In 2004 a new line of DC Comics Presents were published, each celebrating the legacy of Julius Schwartz who died recently. Julie Schwartz had been one of the forces behind the DC since decades, and had also been one of DC's best editor-in-chief.
As a tribute to the big man he was, DC had a group of artists and writers come up with new stories the Schwartz-way. He used to commission covers from artist and have creative teams in on-going books improvise whole tales from it.
So to make the man proud, DC had some old covers of Batman, Green Lantern, The Atom and others redrawn and new stories made from scratch based on those.

Anime NEWS! More Dragon Ball!
In 2008, fans of Dragon Ball were treated to a special gift near Christmas, whole new Dragon Ball Z content in the form of an original new movie taking place at the end of the manga/in-between the DBZ and DBGT anime series.
This year, Toei allied with the Jump magazine did it again!
Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock!!
But instead of making up some new content, this time it is actually an adaptation of a "doujin" follow-up to the old "Father of Goku" Bardock TV Special.
This manga was a sequel of sorts made for V-Jump by the mangaka Naho Ooishi.
Ooishi's got a pretty similar style to the master Akira Toriyama. Not quite the same though, the differences are there particularly on the faces and expression (and the over-use of gradients/shades in the backgrounds). But similar enough, she surely captured the rhythm, panels breakdown/angles and the narration narrowed down.
Anyway, her story was popular enough to get the animated treatment for this year's Christmas!

Blog - Laugh Factory "part 2"
Remember my post about The Laugh Factor?
Well, here's more!
Whenever you get one of these long work days that never seem to end, or need a laugh in-between too much pressure... They have that youtube channel were they keep uploading segments from stand-up comedians. It's the best remedy to turn that frown into a smile!
Today, I'd like to post some more clips I've seen watching lately. This time covering a more diverse range of artists, including some more from my personal faves.

RIP Joe Simon
.

Today, another comic book legend passed away...
The more time passes, the more our connection to the Golden Age gets thinner...
Comic book legend Joe Simon died at 98.
He was actually the co-creator of Captain America and the first Marvel Comic Editor-in-chief.
He also worked at the concurrence, mostly on Superman titles.
He helped launch characters like Boy Commandos, Manhunter, Sand the Golden Boy, Newsboy Legion and Manhunter. He is considered a pioneer of both horror and romance comic books.
RIP Mister Simon. :(

AwesomeMovieScene from Anchorman - Afternoon Delight
This one's from the comedy movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, which is in my eyes easily the best movie Will Ferrell starred in so far.
The whole movie's great, original and quite hilarious to be honest. (it even co-features and cameo's his ol' buddies from Steve Carell, to Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, etc..)
It has that distinctive 70s tone and look as well.
Anyways, enjoy this classic clip:
We all could use some Afternoon Delight once in a while~

He sure puts the youtube channel of his theatrical troupe, Allegiance, to good use :P
"Icons of Star Trek and Star Wars recently took to the internet arguing that their franchise reigned supreme. When things got personal, George Takei--the only actor who has worked in both--stepped in to broker the peace by identifying a mutual threat."

Gamin' NEWS! Duke Nukem Forever - The Doctor Who Cloned Me DLC Trailer
And here's a trailer for Duke Nukem Forever's upcoming DLC episode:
"The Doctor Who Cloned Me" looks actually like a pretty much better self-contained design episode than the levels the "real game" offered.
I just up for well thought levels, a bit more open and less linear, with secrets and all and I'm sold! No matter how much I liked or hated the actual DNF game~
It is available for PSN and Xbox Live for $9.99 or 800 MS points.
I specially looking for this since it's bringing back Duke's classic villain, Dr. Proton!

Stand-up - Joel McHale
Here's a glimpse of a stand up show from Community's star Joel McHale!
He does a lot of shows, but since there hasn't been any official releases of them (on CD or DVD) the only ones you can catch on without being there live are always fan captured with phones and whatnot..
He mostly plays at Universities rather than comedy clubs.
Here's a segment from his tour, at SDSU's Comedy Nite on Sept. 26 2008:

AwesomeCommunityScene - Abed as 'The Cape'
I miss The Cape...such a fun and entertaining show!
Loved the pulp tone, the visual, the atmospheric score...
Oh well...
Here's a great parody/reference of The Cape, from an episode of Community.
I love when Abed gets all fanboy about a TV series/movie! (Cougar Town, The Dark Knight, Dr. Who...)
It always results on these sorts of funny little moments^^

Warner Bros just released the cover art of their upcoming new animated film feature, Justice League Doom!
Batman on the cover, well played Warner, well played.

Movie NEWS! Men In Black 3 trailer
After lots of rumors...and kinda disappearing from everyone's radar the Men In Black are finally back in MIB3!
Enjoy the trailer:
Looks like the series is still directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, which is a good thing.
(I'd fear a sequel in the hands of someone different altogether)
Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, the music seems to be the same, all the ingredients are here.
But another story that has the duo separated? (he's lost in time/disappeared/nobody remembers him?) Couldn't we just have a movie about those two TOGETHER and kicking alien ass as a team? You know...what we were sort of promised at the end of the very first film?!
Also, not liking the time travel angle of this sequel... I mean, I love time travel stories, I really do, bud did MIB need time travel in the plot?
Anyways, this movie's looking great so far, and I'm strangely awaiting its release! :D

Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram - "Somewhere Out There"
Man....after yesterday, I felt kinda obliged to post the original version of Somewhere Out There by Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram.
And if you were gonna ask, it served on the soundtrack of the classic animated movie An American Tail by Don Bluth (also known as simply Fievel due to its main character's name Fievel Mouskewitz)
Classic 80s cartoon movie romantic song, anyone?

Movie NEWS! New comic-to-film posters!
Here's some all-new posters for two upcoming comic book movies.
First up, The Dark Knight Rises!
Well, from the looks of it, I'm expecting the movie to follow Knightfall pretty closely now...
Bane will break the Bat? "The Legend Ends", then below "The Dark Knight Rises"? Gotta take a pick, you gotta decide Hollywood people... Will Bats end or rise?
And is it only me or does it remind you guys of that famous Spider-man picture...
From the throwaway used super-costume to the walking away under the rain pose...only here it is the villain walking off and not the hero...foreshadowing plot points maybe?
Speaking of Spidey, here's the all-new poster for the rebooted franchise Amazing Spider-Man!
What do I have to say about this one?
Gee...how to start...
First up, when superhero movie posters start pouring in, it rains!
And why do both movies have such similar stylistically designed posters to begin with? Same graphic artist on both?
They both look so bland and boring... I can already imagine silly teenage kids saying "HEY! They look cool, I want BOTH of them on my bedroom's wall!! XD!!Lol1!!1!11"
Anyway, the Spider-man is really scr#wed up by its awful tagline... "The Untold Story"...of his origins? Again??
Cliché! Silly! Unnecessary!

Here's a video of a poor lil' orphaned baby bat people took care off:
His mother was yet another casualty from zoo closures which are occurring across the US. She is a young mother who was stressed from the conditions in which she was kept, combined with the additional trauma of being captured and transferred to a new and unfamiliar environment. Consequently, she abandoned Lil' Drac after he was born. He was found on the padded floor of the indoor flight enclosure at Bat World Sanctuary, curled up in a little ball.Awww~

How to Start Your Own Country
Remember Danny Wallace? He's the guy who got all those kids in the UK involved in politics!
In 2005, Danny Wallace got really interested in what you need to do to start your own country nowadays.
The humo(u)rist produced a sort of interactive TV series, using feedback from fans and ideas on his forum boards to create "his country", name it, define it, etc..
Now, BBC took down all his forums, the micronation even not as prominent as originally intended still lives on (partly Internet-based though).
The whole project and documentary can be found on DVD now, but you can still find most of its important parts on the internet.
