Remember the original first Spider-Man movie by Sam Raimi?
Recent reboot or not, it wasn't that long ago you know :P
Most of you will no doubt go "It was great!" "My favorite superhero film!" "I still prefer the original!" or such kind compliments.
But personally my mind will always go to this guy in my memories...
Yeah.
The infamous "Power Rangers-lite" looking villain.
But did you know we almost got a proper good looking and faithful goblin? It even got as far as in early production while filming.
Little did we know this awful generic ugly suit almost didn't make the cut.

The movie actually was conceived as such that the transformation from Norman Osborn to Green Goblin was supposed to feel organic, natural.
Norman had that collections of masks in his living room.
He was then just supposed to use one of his terrifying rubber/tribal masks he collected from around the world.
Instead, we don't know how or why, he got into this armored Goblin look.Which can be explained by the military tech we got a glimpse earlier in the story. But why did that mecha-Goblin mask even exist to begin with, why did he have it and how did it fit so perfectly along the tech-suit....?!
Anyway, artist Alex Ross worked on Raimi's movie - it's a well known fact.
He did various concept/character designs. And his art ended up on screen in the sequels, recapping the events of the original movie.
Alex Ross proposed a fun redesign for the Spidey-suit.
And the following is what he proposed for the live incarnation of the Green Goblin...

But anyway, the movie went for a more hi-tech look for Normie.
Which I always found kinda stupid.
I mean Norman Osborn was physically enhanced, like Peter Parker. Does he really need an armor in case of bullets? Spidey doesn't, so logically he should follow the same idea.
Anyway, that is when the FX crew started working on another direction. Keeping the hi-tech suit no doubt, but still not using the silly goofy Power Rangers mask.
Instead they looked into animatronics and make-up.
Able the actor to convey certain facial expressions, keep the iconic look and provide a reality-grounded Goblin.

Are you kidding me?!?
By getting the one we have in the finished movie, we missed such a badass more believable Goblin.
Of course it doesn't look that much like the one in the comic....but so didn't the final product!!...
This Goblin would have looked fantastically opposite to Spider-Man! (the "naked" green face versus the masked Spider-man, the yellow eyes on both, etc..)
I hate the Power Ranger-wannabee Goblin ...
