I've been watching more and more TV shows these past couple of years.
And simultaneously less and less movies (at least on theater, I'm still watching lots of oldie~)
Did all the creative talent run to the small screen, with producers meddling more and more with big budget productions on the big one?
Anyway, it's that time of the year again!
Time to once more check on what's new and coming up to TV this new 2012-13 Season!
Like I tend to do every year (third time on this blog already!)
So without further redo, let's start with what is currently going on at the moment.
Syfy's ALPHAS
Alphas is a show I'm currently enjoying. Most of Syfy's original shows these past years have been pretty good. They all seem to follow the same formula of a mix of action/comedy, with a "monster-of-the-week" foe to develop the characters around.
And for some obvious reason they even started crossing over one another.
Anyway, EUReKA is over already. But at least we got ALPHAS on its 2nd season already!
It's about these people, called "Alphas", who got super powers. Pretty good.
Syfy's WAREHOUSE 13
I grew to love Warehouse 13 so much!
A series about a bunch of government agents going after magical artifacts. (random stuff such as Santa's boots, Stephen King's pen, etc.)
It's already going on, on its Season 4 already!
Syfy's HAVEN
Haven is to Stephen King what Alphas is to superheroes.
It takes place in a little town in Maine.
I really dig the characters of this one.
Season 3 will start September 21!
Syfy's DEFIANCE
There's also this upcoming new Syfy show Defiance that has caught my interest.
A true science fiction series this time. In the near future, Humans and Aliens at war destroyed each other. A guy goes back to his hometown to find it's now a refugee camp.
It actually sounds pretty interesting. Worth a look at least.
CASTLE
The awesome comedy/thriller/detective show will continue on Sep. 24 for its 5th Season already!
Can't wait to get Nathan Fillion back on screen!
PSYCH
USA Network's own fan favorite detective/comedy series Psych is expected to be back this fall for a whole new Season 7!
FRINGE
Alcatraz might have been canceled way too early, but at least we still got some Bad Robot shows around.
Fringe's 5th and final Season will start on Sep 28.
What is going to happen to both parallel worlds?! What will happen to Peter? What really are those Observers? And is our future doomed to be that dark?
I cannot wait! Easily one of my most anticipated shows these days.
REVOLUTION
Cut one head, another one pops up!
Revolution is yet another JJ Abrams produced series that will feature mystery/thriller/drama.
They even got Jon Favreau to direct the pilot!
This one will be about surviving in a post-apocalyptic world with no electricity around.
It will start September 17.
666 PARK
There's also 666 Park Avenue.
An horror/thriller series featuring Terry O'Quinn. It takes place in a reportedly haunted building.
It will start Sep 30.
PERSON OF INTEREST
I really love Person of Interest!
Sometimes I complain about Christopher Nolan's Batman films, saying they're really about Batman. Well, if you take out the Bat-villains from those flicks you'll get Person of Interest!
Season 2 will start Sep 27.
PRIMEVAL
The UK dino-centric series Primeval is continue to live on!
After some pretty bland seasons and couple of episodes I'm glad to see it survive and find its groove back.
But then Season 5 ended and it sort of wrapped things up.
Fear not cause Primeval: New World is coming up!
It's will be a British/Canadian co-production. It's sort of a spinoff/sequel series.
And plot-wise it makes sense to finally see that other "warp" rifs are opening up all over the world.
WALKING DEAD
The awesome AMC series The Walking Dead will on Oct 14 for it 3rd Season!
Can wait to see katana-wielding Michonne (!!) and the evil Governor introduced to this live Zombie-apocalyptic series.
GREEN ARROW
Arrow, the new superhero show based on the famous DC Comics character will start on Oct 10.
*please don't be awful, please don't be awful*
BOOSTER GOLD
Speaking of which.
Booster Gold is expected to make is solo TV debut next year on Syfy.
I. Cannot. Wait!!!!
GO ON
A little comedy I found about recently.
It will star Matthew Perry so you know it will be fun.
Go On is about a sportscaster in support group. Sort of a comedy/drama thingie.
It starts on Sep 11.
ANIMAL PRACTICE
This show sounded pretty forgettable until I read it featured Tyler Labine (Reaper, Tucker & Dale) and comedian Bobby Lee (!!!).
Animal Practice is about a bunch of veterinarians and will start on Sep 26.
THE OFFICE (US)
The Office is back for yet another Season!
I've been surprisingly loving the Steve Carell-less Season last year.
Season 9 (!!) will start on September 20.
I really love this comedy about awkward situations at work.
My dream plot? That they bring over Ricky Gervais permanently. (not just as a cameo!)
30 ROCK
30 Rock will start its 7th and final Season on Oct. 4!
Another good comedy goes off.
I'm kinda sad to see it go, but it was a good run.
COMMUNITY
The amazing meta-series Community will be back without its creator Dan Harmon on Oct. 19 for Season 4.
I'm glad to have the characters back but I hope NBC producers won't get in the way too much...
PARKS & REC
Parks and Recreation will be with a whole new status quo!
Who is going to handle the Parks?! What's up with Leslie running at the city council?
Season 5 will start on September 20.
LOUIE
Louis CK series about himself is already currently going on its 3rd Season.
No problem there.
Although the show is getting less about the life of a comedian and more about his romantic would be-interests. (barely any standup material now? oh....)
CURB
Curb Your Enthusiasm is currently on hiatus.
HBO already renewed it but it is just waiting for Larry to finish an original movie (he's co-production with and for HBO) to move on to the show's 9th Season.
On hold.
DEREK
These two following ones are UK shows that already started but I plan on catching them up one of these days.
Derek is a series that starts Ricky Gervais.
The pilot aired back in April, but the actual series will start next year.
LIFE's TOO SHORT
Life's Too Short is another series from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
It stars Warwick Davis and is sort of a cross between Extras, Curb and The Office...with a dwarf!
A second Season was planned to start soon..but now it seems we'll only get a Christmas Special this year..?
FUTURAMA
Futurama's 7th Season is currently airing. There will be a little break after the double-mid-Season Finale.
The new episodes have been great, really!
Perhaps a bit less memorable than the originals though.
TRON UPRISING
Surprising enough, after watching a couple of episodes of Tron: Uprising I found myself loving this show's art direction. Sort of reminds me of what a point & click game based on Tron would look like. (Runaway, anyone?)
New episodes in October!
STAR WARS
I love Star Wars: The Clone Wars!
The look, the stories, the animations, etc! Great job ILM on both maintaining a movie-like quality and keeping the old Clone Wars 2D animated show feel around.
Mark your calendar folks, Season 5 start this September
LOONEY TUNES SHOW
I love the Looney Tunes! As a long-time huge fan of the classics, I was definitively okay to see them in this new sitcom setting.
The Looney Tunes Show S2 has no airing date at the moment.
But at least, the second season has been commissioned.
On hold!
THUNDERCATS
Still no news regarding my favorite fantasy series/modern animated cartoon.
Thundercats is still awaiting to either be canceled or renewed for its 2nd Season.
sigh...
YOUNG JUSTICE
DC Comics-based sidekicks team series Young Justice is also currently waiting. Though Season 2 is just on a break to be precise.
On hold.
GREEN LANTERN
The CGi Green Lantern: The Animated Series will be back as well.
It will be back on September 1st, introducing Earth's latest Lantern, Guy Gardner! Don't miss it!
BATMAN
New Bat-year, new Batman show!
The DC animated block on Cartoon Network will receive Beware the Batman!
Warner's 2nd CGi series, but Batman's first CGi one.
I'm not sure how I feel about this at the moment. Not liking the gun-using Alfred, the fact it's CGi, etc. But loving the chara design and Katana from the Outsiders on this show!
It will start airing in Spring 2013.
Also: "In the wake of the 2012 Aurora shooting, it was announced that the series content would be altered in order to make the firearms in the show look less realistic."
Oh-ho...
DC NATION
Can we all agree that DC needs to collect all these DC Nation Shorts on disc later on?
THE SIMPSONS
The Simpsons' penultimate Season 24!
That's right it's coming to an end.
Both sad and a relief. I mean I'm not sure they can keep it fun and as fresh for much longer.
I admit I'll miss it quite a lot.
It will start Sep 30.
ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN
Ultimate Spider-Man will be back on Sep 9.
I kinda warmed up to this show rather quickly~
I still prefer Spectacular Spider-man as far as Spidey cartoon series go, but Ultimate still is a pretty good show nonetheless.
AVENGERS
Disney canned Earth Mightiest Heroes.... oooh... :/
But they said the show will continue/be retooled to better go along Ultimate Spidey.
It will now be called Avengers Assemble and will air on 2013.
As such this new version of the show will add Falcon, and feature designs closer to the movie (...which they already tried S2 of the previous show...)
Also, good news or bad news, it will now feature a greater mix of 2D and CGi. Whatever that means.
HULK
Jeph Loeb can't have enough of these animated Marvel series it seems, since they'll be launching a new cartoon series.
Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.!!
It will air alongside the other two, in Early 2013.
Featuring the Hulk and his related Gamma-enhanced friends. (Shulkie, Rhulk, A-Bomb,..)
SCOOBY-DOO
The best Scooby-doo series ever has been confirmed to return!
Yay!
Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated Season 2 already started in the UK.
It will be back this fall.
GRAVITY FALLS
New cartoon, 'nuff said.
Gravity Falls, airs every Friday.
TMNT
The 2012 iteration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
This I got to at least see beginning.
It will premier on Sep 29.
VENTURE BROS
[adult swim] already confirmed the show was renewed for two more seasons at least.
I guess they're hard at work on Season 5 at the moment.
Can't wait to have The Venture Bros. back!
They currently have about 10 episodes ready, and it is set for January 2013 so far.
RICKY GERVAIS SHOW
The animated Ricky Gervais Show on HBO is sort of over.
Ricky thinks they used all the stuff they could, they'd have to record new stuff and they sort of run out of ideas it might lose its spontaneity.
ROBOT CHICKEN
Everyone's favorite stop motion series has finally been green-lighted a new 6th Season afterall!
Starting September 2, with a DC Comics special planned for Sep. 9.
MYTHBUSTERS
The Mythbusters episodes usually air from March to June. So the "2013 Season" will no doubt do the same next year.
AN IDIOT ABROAD
Karl Pilkington will return for some more episodes of An Idiot Abroad!
How did Steve Merchant and Ricky Gervais persuade him to do some more traveling around?!
Two specials will air for/around Christmas.
An Idiot Abroad 3: The Short Way Round will have Karl this time joined by Warwick Davis.
And Karl is "starting to regret it already" it seems.
SCARE TACTICS
Where is Scare Tactics?!
I've been waiting for new episodes of this hidden camera show for so long?!
From what I've read, it seems there's been some trouble during one of their latest "traps". Someone either got hurt or sued.
I loved listening to Tracy Morgan's commentary!
On hold.
~
And that is all on my side.
(that's a lot already, not sure how many of these I'll actually keep on track or will track down later on, on DVD)
And you guys 'n' gals? What have you got on sight?
Opinions, suggestions, own impressions?
can't wait for the new TMNT!
