The subject today is... The Web of Spider-man!
Do you prefer Spider-Man using Web-shooters or Organic Web coming out of his wrists?!
I always prefered the Mechanical Web-shooters... I guess they make a heckuve lot more sense in the end of the day...
I mean, you can diss all you want the mechanical ones, like Sam Raimi did "Everybody should be able to relate to Spider-man" or shout like some fanboys "It's more realistic. How would a college student/poor freelance photographer be able to create a mechanical device like those web-shooters and create a that super impossible to recreate web-like chemical imitation".
Well, simply put, it the amazing fantasy, pun intended, of the Marvel Universe, it is quite believable.
Think for a second. No need to drag in Thor, Ironman and other characters, let's just stay in the Spider-man part of that universe.
With characters like Mysterio or the Shocket creating their own evil devices, are the Web-shooters so Amazing?!
Plus isn't Peter Parker supposed to be a genius-kinda? I mean he did help Reed Richards, of the Fantastic Four, many times! Plus it's basically him trying to imitate the spiders through his chemical knowledge.
And don't you say "A kid with some spider-powers created an amazing web-product that nobody is able to replicate is unrealistic." like I read so many times on other sites...
Who said nobody was able to recreate it?? It's just that in the Marvel U, scientists have more important stuff to do than recreate Spider-web!
But if Ironman, or the Shield would want it, I'm sure they could just as easily recreate it!
In fact, I'm sure the Chameleon, a Spider-villain, used a web of his own while imitating Spider-man!
And The Taskmaster, a genius mercenary with the ability to imitate other people's techniques and moves, like to use other character's tech. Like a replicate of Captain America's shield. So he used once, while imitating Spidey and Daredevil's moves against, a Web-shooter of his own!
Right here!
See? It's not impossible to replicate Spidey's web!
Anyway, I always prefered the mechanical way instead of the organic...
I dunno for you...but this seems rather...weird... and less logical to me...
Let me explain why! (your opinion may differ! to each their own's)
First... How logical is that, that some mutation/powers obtained from a radioactive Spider would provide someone with organic wrists-shooters?!
Shooting web from one own's hand?! And specially both hands! You can imagine maybe this has to do with the way/spot the Spider bite parker..but it comes from both hands!!
People like to joke that the web should come out of his a***. But... Why would his a*** mutate to provide web from there either?!
It's....just.. mind blowing!
I know they wanted to go for the rational "Everybody should be able to relate to Spider-man" and not use Peter Parker's intelligence so anyone could imagine himself being Spider-man... but can you keep that argument when Parker clearly help some scientist build this thing up:
No, sorry. I meant fix this energy reactor. He helps Octopus (before turning into Doc Ock) finds some errors and helps him work on some details in a pseudo-science-thingie scene in Spider-man 2.
Do you still relate to Parker, on the same IQ level?
How is creating such device in the movie and having Parker directly understand and work a bit on its development more reliable, realistic, than poor web-shooters??
I just think Sam Raimi simply didn't like the idea of having Peter run out of web some times and have to recharge his shooters... Though it did happen some times in his movies nonetheless...even with natural organic shooters.
Anyway, I kinda find it sad some people actually don't like the idea of Web-shooters. Like Joe Quesada, when he was tryin' to shake things up in his comic lines (before One More Day...-sigh-).
Having for editorial decision to have Spider-man evolve, change into something else and gain more powers... and they deviced to adapt the movie organic web into the comics... (They usually, at Marvel, like to adjust the comics to the current movies and bring in the movie current characters, directions and ideas into the current comics continuity...such a shame... I really hate the way they force the writers to adjust to the movies...it really ruins creativity and make the comics seem like just a marketing tool for the movies rather than their own separate product!)
I really like the plot directions and situations the Web-shooters can provide over the the Organic web... Spidey running out of web?! Using a different kind of chemical web to defeat a foe!? The enemy breaking the device to blocke the web?!etc... The possibilities are endless over an organic web which will have to mysteriously stop due to Parker..huh..mutations/problems/confidence in his powers to provide plot-devices!
Anyway, that's my 2-cent in this subject.
What do you think? Do you prefer Organic over Mechanical Web for Spider-man?!
Is one more realistic or cooler than the other? Be it in the movie adaptations or the comic book universe!
This is quite kickass in real life, my opinion! 'Nuff Said!
Did you know the original Spider-man movie was going to have mechanical web-shooters when Sam Raimi wasn't going to direct it at first? (and James Cameron was working on it)
Check the pic below!
Also what d'you think the new Spider-movie-reboot will use? Organic web again? Web-shooters??
Actual movie web-shooters, created during Spider-man 1's preproduction stages.
The original web-shooter for the movie looks amazing! I want one >_<
ReplyDeleteAlso for Tobey Maguire to be able to shoot, doesn't his costume need to have holes in the wrists?
And it's not like movie Spidey isn't a genius! He did help Doc Ock on that crazy "scifi doom engine"!
