Here's a fun factoid.
Did you know that at some point we almost got a third Looney Tunes live-action movie?
But unlike the others we got, this one wasn't gonna mix hand drawn animated characters next to people but CGi cartoons!!
Yeah, it was back when CG was all the rage.
(it still is, but now mostly aimed at kids)
Anyways, story goes back in 2008 Warner went to Alcon Entertainment to produce this live action/animated movie.
They even got Mike Myers fresh off his popularity with the Austin Powers films and the quite popular Shrek franchise.
The story would have followed Marvin has he tried to destroy Earth around Christmas (!).
Christopher Lee would have played Santa Claus himself (!!).
So obviously, with such "brilliant plans" behind the film, it was bound to be a success, right?
Well after some test footage they canned it despite its scheduled release being announced and all. (October 7 2011)
Here's the only footage we got, which was only leaked this past December actually:

So what do you guys think? "Thank god" or "too bad"?
Good lord that was cringe-worthy.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to think a major martian bomb was averted by some form of daffy duck.

I dunno, that could have been good. Marvin the Martian was always one of my favorite Looney Tunes characters.
ReplyDeleteI suspect there's a reason why they cancelled the project, though, and we may be better off not knowing why or what we would have wound up with if they'd gone through with it.
I must also confess some ignorance and curiosity here. You say this would have been the third movie to feature a blend of Looney Tunes and live action. Space Jam comes to mind as one, and then there's this one that didn't quite come to be. What's the one I'm not thinking of here? Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Or is there another one?
Ah, the 2nd one I meant was "Looney Tunes: Back in Action"!
DeleteSadly it got little to no publicity at the time. Myself I only caught it years later on dvd.
It was fairly good actually.
