Well, except when you do the origin story. Because these type of groups always start dysfunctional.

#Movie NEWS! Gatchaman live

The Gatchaman live action film directed by Toya Sato came out last year.

But like most fans living outside Japan, I'm still waiting for a chance to watch it. Looks like I'll have to settle for the DVD release (it will no doubt feature English subtitles)

Here's one of the most recent trailers:

This looks fantastic! To most people either calling it a Japanese Avengers or "Gundam Live Action" (really??), one word: BOO! These were the original super anime team, the one and only "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman" aka Battle of the Planets back in the 1970s!

You know what, I can't wait for this!! Even though it seems to take itself way too seriously.. Oh, well! Wait and see...

#Anime NEWS! Time for a live GATCHAMAN movie!!!

Remember that CGi Science Ninja Team Gatchaman animated movie that the studio Imagi was making?
Remember?
Yeah. A shame it got canceled. Specially after all the hype it was starting to get and those teasers they showed at Comic-Con and all...

BUT HERE'S SOME GOOD NEWS, Everyone!
Japanese company Nikkatsu Studios are producing a live action version of Gatchaman for summer 2013!
Yeah!
A big budget Japanese live motion picture!
Honestly, it couldn't be better than that!

The movie will be directed by Toya Sato (live-action Grave of the Fireflies, Sexy Voice and Robo, Kaiji, Gokusen) will with a script by Yūsuke Watanabe (20th Century Boys, Gantz, Bloody Monday) and it will star.Tori Matsuzaka (.hack//The Movie, live-action Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, Kamen Rider Decade) as Ken, the head of the eponymous team.
Gō Ayano (second-in-command Jō), Ayame Gōriki (explosive yoyo-wielding Jun), Tatsuomi Hamada (youngest member Jinpei), and Ryōhei Suzuki (main pilot Ryū) round out the cast.

Can’t wait!

Let's hope this one doesn't get canned....

ComicPageOfTheWeekend: Battle of the Planets

Here's a beautiful painting by Alex Ross for a Gatchaman miniseries that never came out, supposed to closethe TOP COW on-going series. (which I might talk about on this blog at some point, being a Tatsunoko fan and all that~)

Score!!! Free swag~ (episode 2)

The local (and only) comic book store (of US/superheroes comics) here in Geneva (that's where I live in case you missed previous mentions of it) will be changing address and moving some block away from where it had been this last (two) decade(s) or so.
For that occasion they've been cutting prices, selling off at pretty cheap prices most of their stock and getting rid of their old comic issues.

Here's what I was able to score!

Apart from a Flash trade paperback and a Star Wars collection I've been trying to get my hands for a lot of time, I was also able to get a dozen nice issues of stuff as different as Ghost Rider 2099, Battle of the planets (some issues missing from my collec'), "Silver Age" DC event, etc...
And a TON of Spider-girl issues! :D
(seriously though, when I had all those in hands at the store, it really felt like they weight a ton)
I luv Spider-girl! Such as fun book like I said previously already.
With the issues I had at home, I've almost covered most of her classic run now :'3

That's all I had to say~

Manga NEWS! Battle of the Planets - reborn!

You probably wouldn't guess it... but I'm a huuuuuuuuuge Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets fan!!

Now, I'm not here to talk about the classic anime series...or the great comic book revival. But about the CGi movie that has been in development hell for a very long time.
