What can we say already aside from the fact this looks pretty fun?
Looks like a mix of all previous Sonic/Sega racing games. I see "transformed" mechanics, extremeboards/overboards, lots of characters, SAGE is here! A few references to the storybooks/Secret Rings stages...
Oh man, what is this...this random surprise!! Sega or Paramount didn't make an entire Christmas Special. But the latest teaser/ad is a fun parody of it:
Aw, this was adorable! And super fun! Very nice little Christmas surprise!
*insert obligatory Sonic music - Green Hill and Live and Learn this time - as orchestral variants that WONT BE in the movie* Dammit, I wish Live and Learn would stay, but if it's anything like the previous films.... Remember Emerald Hill's music in the film? Me neither.
ANYWAYS
Sonic Movie 3 just dropped! Shadow looks great and epic, and like with Sonic Movie 2's Japanese title (Sonic Vs. Knuckles), Sonic Movie 3 got a pretty darn epic title in Japan again, "Sonic Vs. Shadow: Tokyo Mission! Let's go!!!!
Wow! The bits we get of Shadow's past with Maria seems pretty true to the source material. The rest seems like a truncated simplified Sonic Adventure 2 with odd choices, like Movie 2 was a weird simplified mashup of Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 (a Master Emerald but no Chaos Emeralds, the Death Egg Robo but no Death Egg..). We do seem to have a weird glimpse at the ARK there at the end.
Keanu Reeves fits Shadow like Idris Elba fits Knuckles. It's different, but fitting. Keanu's been voicing stuff since the 80s..
I still wish they did Chaos or Metal Sonic before Shadow, I can't imagine them afterwards. (Maybe a tweaked Sonic CD Metal Sonic+Heroes following the Eggman asked for a quill from Sonic-part in the trailer?)
No idea what they're doing with Gerald Robotnik, we lack context here. Real deal? Hologram/AI thing? Halucinations like Pachacamac? Eggman-Carrey does seem to hint that it isn't right (Are you really here??)
Wait and see!
Oh, and Shadow finally did the Akira bike slide, been wishing for it since the Shadow spinoff and Sonic 06's cutscenes back then...!
I gotta admit, I just wanted to write this title for this post.
We made it, SEGA bros, a reveal trailer for a 3rd live action Sonic movie.. followed closely by the first proper for a Knuckles spinoff series.
Let's see...
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 | Title Treatment Reveal (2024 Movie)
This looks nice. Pretty nice indeed. It's just a tease, but this better confirm we will finally get a Crush40 song in a Sonic movie!!!
I'd like to see them make the characters slightly older, like when the games went from classic era->Sonic Adventure era. I'm still not convinced skipping SA1 was a good choice, even presenting both stories in reverse order seems odd. Sonic is like a shonen manga, there's an escalation in the level of threats and power-ups. Perfect Chaos goes before Shadow and the Biolizard, based on researches on the Echidnas.... and... Wait and see..
Knuckles Series | Official Trailer | Paramount+
Our boy Knux is here! For a long while I hoped it would have been a sort of Archie Comics-style adaptation of Chaotix or Sonic Adventure.. but instead feels more like a filler episode. You know what? This would have been a nice way to introduce Tikal, the Echidnas, Amy or Rouge... Like before, wait and see...
W..what?? What the heck?? An official Sega-licenced product called "SONIC X SHADOW"??
So the rumors were true...
Sonic Generations is back, the latest re-release following Sonic Colors Ultimate and Sonic Origins Plus. But instead of an Ultimate remaster we're getting an enhanced port and it's called:
SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS!
Apparently it's a brand new experience with Shadow including a lot of stages from SA2 and Shadow the Hedeghog and a new story (I never expected to see Black Doom or the Black Arms return...!). The Biolizard boss fight from Generations 3DS. And "alongside" the classic complete Sonic Generations game.
Kind of like what Nintendo did Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, I'd say. Here's the trailer:
This means this year will really be "The Year of Shadow"! I'm expecting to see IDW do a Shadow one-shot like they did for Tails and Amy.
Not only is this Sonic Dream Team a (timed?) exclusive to Apple Arcade, and a return to 3D platform for Sonic, and it has several playable characters.. but the game also has another lovely animated opening + kickass music from Tee Lopes?
Come on Sega, last time you did exclusives it was the awful Sonic Boom game or that generic Sonic Lost World (which this seems a tiny bit inspired by).
Wow! Rouge! And Cream with a key role in the store? And I don't trust the new sheep girl...
Playable Rouge! Playable Cream! Yes, multiple characters with their own styles!
Heck yeah, bring it on!
Lots of new stages inspired by "dreams and nightmares". No Green Hill Zone!
Let's go!!! LESSGO!!!
Exclusive to AppleArcade!
...waitWHAT?!?
Alright, we'll see if this or something similar comes out of the AppleArcade dmz. Either like Sonic Team Racing/Sonic Racing. Or stuck on it like other (good) games...
So far they released a trailer:
And we can have a look at the new villain "manipulating Eggman's dreams, a ram? A goat? A sheep? Let's call her Ram the Sheep for now. (or The GoatTM):
Wait and see what happens next... so far it kinda reminds me of a mix of a Sonic Lost World 2 crossed with a Sonic Heroes 2 with a dash of Advance series, not just for Cream's appearance. Wait and see indeed...
Time for a new Sonic youtube cartoon! This time to promote Superstars!
While escorting Dr. Eggman and his hapless new helper Trip through a perilous ruin, Fang the Hunter will need to muster all his cunning to overcome past mistakes and escape the coils of a fierce new enemy. Meanwhile, Eggman discovers what may be the key to his next dastardly scheme.
I was expecting several episodes, but I guess this is better than nothing. Including the return of Fang! And that new bad guy dude!
Sonic goes SSJ2 in new Sonic Frontiers free DLC! YES!! FRIGGIN YEAH!!!
This doesn't retcon Hyper Sonic in my eyes, that's like either a SSJ3 form or a God mode. Yes, Sonic is totally riffin' on Dragon Ball, and it always has been. Nothing new.
Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon Update arrives on September 28th!
Big news, Sonic and Sega fans, while waiting for the Frontiers story DLC and Sonic Origins Plus, Sega just announced a brand new Sonic sidescroller! But not another Mania with lovely 2D artstyle, not even a Sonic 4-situation. Instead we have a modern sidescroller with Sonic Generation-style visuals!
Looking gorgeous! I like how Amy is being incorporated into "Team Sonic" lately. I feel like a modern Sonic Heroes would had Amy part of Sonic's team now. (Which also makes you wonder for the upcoming Sonic Movie 3...).
Retro designs! New powerups with the Emeralds! New animated cutscenes! And Fang the Sniper is back, finally! Also Sonic fans rejoice, Sonic co-creator Naoto Ohshima is back with Sega and Sonic Team and he will be designing a brand new character for the adventure (rumored to be some sort of armored pangolin people have seen in leaked material).
Can you believe this game's already coming this fall????
So apparently the Knuckles spinoff for Paramount+ just started production.
Thoughts?
Wait and see...
I like these "live action" Sonic films well enough, but after stuff like the new Mario Bros. Movie, I kinda want to see them reboot Sonic as a pure CGi animated film as well, humans in the plot or not. Think cutscenes from the Sega games.
Oh, and slightly base it off the IDW comics for some nice exploration and characterisation. (Sorry SATAM and Archie fans, but I'm not asking for an adaptation of the French comics, the UK comics or the manga, so let's go with a broader appeal closer to the games - and avoid a certain Ken P. as well..)
Please! Do not ask for these! This was a personal job, not
outsourcing the work to other people. If you want me to work out
something for you, I will do so for money only.
I got made some Mega Drive physical repros, of some Sonic hacks I really
like. The pretty old but classic Sonic Gaiden by Yuski as well as the
recent awesome Sonic 1 Halloween Edition. Of course that meant I got an
excuse to make some new custom case covers.
As usual, comments disabled here to avoid the spam I get on these.

These last ones are just for me. I wanted a proper SoR 4 Mega Drive
mockup game case, which I started from the Limited Games bonus cover.
And a Dreamcast Sonic Frontiers using some very cool art I saw on
twitter and using Sonic Frontiers Dreamcast mods for the screenshots.
As usual, comments disabled here to avoid the spam I get on these.
This is probably all from the first/pilot episode, I'm guessing? So Sonic facing Shadow encounter Eggman, break open the multiverse and Sonic is lost in space and time trying to find a way back to his prime universe. Did I get it right? See you in about a year to check it back.
So here it is. For once I waited for the "world premiere" and sat in front of IGN's upload on youtube. And here it is indeed:
Well.
Alright, so several points that immediately come to mind:
- It looks like Sonic Team finally realized what the old Sonic 2006 teaser trailer promised, Sonic exploring a realistic environment. That's what this reminds me, the old original Sonic 2006 teaser with Sonic running in a plain and forest, fighting realistic robots.
- Inspired by the movies or not? The more realistic grounded "weird "worlds plus the design of the round robots make me think so.
- It does looks as promised: Sonic in a sandbox environement, like something out of a FFXV or something... Sonic running aimlessly in what appears the sandbox world of some other game.
- For me it reminds me way too much of all these sandbox fangames... I would certainly prefer a more contained and level-based arcade experience. For me Sonic's always been the kind of arcade platformer you replay the same few levels constantly to get better each time, either grabbing the Chaos Emeralds quicker each time (2D games) or by getting better and better ranks each time (3D games). And this.. doesn't feel like that so far. I'll certainly dig playing this once, but a couple of games like this? hmmm...
They're kinda selling this the opposite they did with Sonic Forces. Which showed zero gameplay but bits from the opening trailer, a sign of story elements, returning characters, etc. Here, we don't know if even Tails' in here!
