#E32018 Day 1 Bethesda saves the day

After an okay start with Microsoft and a boring conference from EA, comes Bethesda to save the day.

I mean, I don't know about me. But all the stuff that caught my attention came from Bethesda's panel.

How did I miss this one??

They also made some new announcements regarding the Quake III Arena-spiritual sequel Quake Champions through a cringe-worthy live trailer. At least this new trailer showcase more gameplay footage as well as the addition of another id Software icon added to the fray, the one and only Wolfenstein protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz!!

It's that time of the year! Time for a new E3 to either blow our minds or seriously disappoint us...

First to open up the E3 2017 show was the Bethesda conference. And they had so many surprises - I'm all on board for some of these new games!

I really enjoyed Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. It was a lot of fun and even had a lot more humor than The New Order. The game started great with this funny and tense humorous scene:

#Short Wolfenstein: the motion comic

Here is something vaguely Halloween-ysh. In that it is kinda horror-oriented, without being clearly so.

I noticed I simply forgot to post these "motion comics" in my review. These shorts Activision released through Gametrailers at the time for the release of Wolfentstein 2009!

It's a recap/summary of the entire Wolfenstein franchise - like I said in my review. Tying Wolfenstein 3D, its prequel Spear of Destiny, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Raven Software Wolfenstein 2009 into a single continuity despite RtCW being clearly a reboot of the series before. And I prefer it that way, stop with the reboots.

The whole thing sort of works actually, but it does make for quite a crazy alternate history in which Hitler was defeated early on, but the Nazis (the 3rd and then the 4th Reich) kept coming up with new crazy supernatural schemes and a single guy kept defeating their entire plan. (But they finally succeeded if you count The New Order which was another reboot, but The Old Order would soon tie that game back into the series.. yeah, they keep doing that with this series.)

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

Apparently Wolfenstein: The New Order was a great success. (no surprise there, really)

Bethesda just announced they are going to revisit the franchise already! In an "expansion pack" of sorts....

The game is called Wolfenstein: The Old Blood.

And it will actually be a standalone prequel of sorts. It's expected as a 2-parter digital release on May 5, only for "next gen" systems (PS4, Xbox One and PC). (I suppose it's gonna be this generation's "gimmick", heh?) Will a retail disc release follow later on? No idea...

MachineGames is developing it (remember, id's supposedly focused on Doom 4). This episode will actually act as a throwback to where the modern series started, meaning revisiting and referencing locations from Return to Castle Wolfenstein. And unlike the alternate history of New Order, this will take us back to 1946 this time.

"Part one, Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves, sees Blazkowicz busting back into the classic Castle Wolfenstein and going head-to-head with a “maniacal prison warden” in order to discover the coordinates of General Deathshead’s compound. "

"Part two, The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs, sees Blazkowicz’s mission lead him to the city of Wulfburg where an “obsessed Nazi archaeologist is exhuming mysterious artifacts that threaten to unleash a dark and ancient power.” "

Very Return to Castle Wolfenstein-ysh!



Loving the pulp vibe from it!

The game is expected to make a first appearance at PAX this year.

VGR QUAKE III ARENA

The best competitive FPS of all time!

If I could only summarize QUAKE III in one way, I'd say it's an id Software All-Star deathmatch crossover pitching against each other the characters and the universes of the Doom trilogy, Quake 1 and Quake 2 - only really missing a representative from Wolfenstein - which is a shame - and at least a cameo or references to the Commander Keen series... sigh.

#Movie NEWS! Frankenstein's Army

Here's a random new movie that caught my eye!

Frankenstein's Army is an upcoming film by director Richard Raaphorst that comes right from the Netherlands (where it's known as Army of Frankenstein).

It takes place in an alternate reality that can only be described as: Wolfenstein in real life.



Looks BAD. ASS. Right up my alley :P

It looks so much like Wolf3D, it even seems to take place in Return to Castle Wolfenstein's castle! And even that lab glimpsed at the end looks like the one from the game, where you first start to see those monster/mutants/experiments gone wrong!

It's pretty safe to say that Hollywood wouldn't be able to make "the real thing" that good. (just look at the movie Doom...)

#Gaming NEWS! Return to WOLF3D Again

So apparently there's a new Wolfenstein game coming up!!

Why didn't anyone tell me so? Oh, right. Thanks Clayman8!

It's called Wolfenstein: The New Order.

And it will be developed by MachineGames this time, at Bethesda.

There's only a little teaser for now:



It's coming up for current and next-gen consoles later this year. So I'm guessing PC, Xbox 360, whatever-box3, PS3 and PS4.

I got to say... they might be showing nothing but I'm already looking forward to it! The Wolfenstein game series always managed to be fun and offer a bit more than the generic military first person shooters. Heck, Wolfenstein invented the genre! Hoping they won't mess this one up to much.
