#Cartoon NEWS! Cartoon Network 2016 #Pilot Season 2016!

It's that time of the year! Time to check on Cartoon Network's last batch of pilots, which they have been regularly airing lately.

A lot of modern classic CN shows from this "renaissance era" of sorts will be coming to an end pretty soon - including Adventure Time in about 2 years, Regular Show at the moment, as well as Gumball and Uncle Grampa. And while Steven Universe's been receiving a pretty solid reception, you never know whenever they might end it as well. So let's see what new creators have to offer, shall we?

It's that time of the year! Time for Cartoon Network's latest batch of possible cartoon pilots!

Actually, I'm kinda cheating this time. One of these has already been greenlighted apparently.

#Cartoon NEWS! A scrapped Pilot from Cartoon Network is leaked online!

Another cartoon pilot was just released on Cartoon Network's website. BUT WAIT! It's not another pilot for a possible new show.

It's the original pilot for the recent fantastic CN miniseries "Over the Garden Wall" by Patrick McHale!

This pilot actually dates back from October 24, 2013 and had only aired in a few film festivals prior to that. It was titled Tome of the Unknown back then and would result in the aforementioned miniseries which I adored, which in turn caused CN to now greenlit a couple of upcoming mini-series. I really like this format, so I'm glad there will be more of that going forward.

#Cartoon NEWS! Pilot Season 2015 on Cartoon Network!

It's time for another pilot season of new (potential) Cartoon Network shows!

Cartoon Network just aired three new cartoon pilots. Each radically different and apparently aiming at different crowds/genres. Let's check 'em out!

#Cartoon NEWS! The best new pilot I've seen in ages on Cartoon Network!

Here's a new pilot for an upcoming show on Cartoon Network.

It's called Steven Universe! The show - story and chara design - comes from long-time Adventure Time storyboard artist (and song writer) Rebecca Sugar.

While Steven seems a tad bit annoying, the world-building does sound pretty interesting if you ask me. In the long run they could tone him down, or make him funnier I'm sure. Another comedy-driven epic adventure show in the making - and coming off recent successes like Adventure Time itself and Regular Show, it looks like Cartoon Network's on the right track for a rebirth after drowning in awfully cheesy live action sitcomes this past decade.

I really dig the art style. It has a great "indie comic" look I love. It looks a lil' bit too complex for a weekly show, so I'm sure they'll find a way to simplify details.

Update: February 2015: Looking back now that Steven's in the middle of its first Season, it looks like I got a few things right in retrospective. Here's a fun comparison video I'll post below for fun:

There's a lot of fun new cartoons out there, and I'm finding myself watching more and more of those as I'm finding live TV Shows extremely formulaic (and canceled way too soon all the time..).

Next up, here's a couple of possible upcoming shows' pilots that caught my eyes:

AJ's Infinite Summer - for now it's just a short but this could make a fun new show.

But what would the actual show be about? Random adventures? It has a sort of nice Doug meets Regular Show. Speaking of, it's created by former Regular Show storyboard artist, Toby Jones actually.

And finally my favorite one so far, Long Live the Royals.

Created by another artist who worked on RS so far, Sean Szeles.

A fun medieval/fantasy show with plenty of anachronism and a bunch of slacker main characters. Sign me in!

Time for your obscure scrapped cartoon of the week!

"The Modifyers" was an animated pilot created by cartoonists Chris Reccardi and Lynne Naylor for Nickelodeon.
It was directed and scored by Chris Reccardi while the character designs and concepts are from Lynne Naylor.

It never actually aired, but here's the pilot straight from Chris Reccardi's vimeo page!
