Man, Ed Boon & co are going all out with the new "soft-rebooted" Mortal Kombat game....
Badass campaign, with the classic imagery/song remixed. Dave Bautista. Getting some celebrities/movie stars into some characters (Megan Fox works surprisingly well here, with nods to the great flick Jennifer's Body), and even JCVD as Johnny Cage!!!! Holy sh!t!
Following the recent modern trilogy of Mortal Kombat games which introduced a lot of time travel shenanigans and retconning stuff, we ended the last game with SPOILER ALERT Liu Kang resurrected as a Fire & Ice God and Raiden stripped of his immortality.
Now we're going back in time for an alternate Mortal Kombat 1 (again..). At least it does look really good.
Check it out!
I actually really wanna check out the plot goes on.. but I feel like we're stuck in MK 1-3 era forever these last few games.. I kinda want to see the villains and characters of the 3D era of MK games at some point return as well..
Here's the trailer for the new Mortal Kombat, finally! Like the recent games it seems much more focused on the ninja clans than on the Earthrealm vs Outworld tournament. Check this out:
Honestly all this looks really great. The only thing I don't like is the random non-character "Cole" being the main guy. Why didn't they just call him Johnny Cage, for example? But yeah, just keep Liu Kang as the main character, how difficult is that (and please don't outfit like Ryu from SF! what was that about?)... Also, did I hear an orchestral remix of the classic MK theme?
Mortal Kombat hits HBO Max and theaters on April 16.
So the same year Mortal Kombat got the Aftermath (story) upgrade, we're now getting a second update to MK11 in this, well, frankly weird year of 2020.
New upgrade of the game means a new physical release as well as a brand new "Kombat Pack" DLC. And I really like the fact we're finally getting Mileena (yay!) and Rain (awesome!), but I kinda dig the idea to have Sly himself voicing Rambo! Hahaha. We can now have Stallone fighting Schwarzenegger in Mortal Kombat! Bruce Willis' John McClane and Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage when??
Spawn is the lastest Kombatant to join Mortal Kombat 11's Kombat Pack-DLC. And he's looking great! And voiced by Keith David no less, returning from the animated series to voice Al Simmons once more!
So apparently there's going to be a Mortal Kombat direct-to-video animated feature film. Guess now that it's a Warner Bros IP, and considering Warner's animated input, it was bound to happen. And it actually doesn't look half-bad.
T-800 arrives in Mortal Kombat 11, as the new DLC character for the current “Kombat Pack” season.
And while they couldn't get the actual Arnie voicing him, it looks like a really fun character with a ton of little details. Like losing the skin with attacks and ending up as the creepy endoskeleton, the time travel-fatality, and more!
Check it out:
I actually really dig what they did. He will be made available this October 8.
Netherrealms studio finally revealed the entire cast of this first kombat pack, and it's kinda completely bonkers. (And yes, the leaks were right all along..)
Man, I really want more returning MK characters if there's a kombat pack
2 down the line... Too many bonkers guest characters for my taste..
Tekken and SFV still have a better roster of DLC additions.
Here's a bunch of fighting game news, straight from #EVO 2019!
First up Ed Boon & Netherrealm Studios finally showed ONE of the upcoming new DLC characters for Mortal Kombat 11's Kombat Pack , fan-favorite Nightwolf! (Sorry Sindel, and even worse, Mileena fans, nothing for you guys..)
During EVO 2019's big Dragon Ball FighterZ finals, Arc System Works officially announced Janemba and Gogeta with the following trailer. And Janemba's getting released this week no less!
And while I might not be a big fan of it, let's not skip French Bread's update for their 2D fighter Under Night In-Birth: EXE Late[cl-r]. Yeah. Such a weird silly name. But things look pretty decent though:
Slightly ahead of schedule for EVO, thanks to a Valve/Steam leak, the announcement of more Street Fighter V DLC characters! All available right ahead! Fans wanted E.Honda for so long.. and we even got two more Final Fight guest, thanks Ono!
One of the big announcements of EVO was Harada announcing a major update for TEKKEN 7 as well as a new Season 3 that will include a bunch of changes, stages and characters. Starting with a fan much requested return and a newcomer for T7:
BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle is getting EVEN MORE characters! It's not the best game ever.. but I love it!
SNK probably confirmed development on the new King of Fighters XV with the following logo:
As well as the full roster of DLC (which includes a free character) for the Samurai Shodown reboot - along the confirmation of a Season 2 coming in 2020 with more DLC characters! PLEASE ADD IROHA, SNK!!
And while we're on the subject, NAMCO revealed the last character coming to Soul Calibur VI....
...As well as a confirmation of a Season 2 which will no less than a guest character from SNK... HAOMARU himself from Samurai Shodown!!! I love seeing all these SNK characters pop up in all sorts of fighters, lately!
But the best announcement came form ArcSys who just announcement a brand new Guilty Gear for 2020! Look how beautiful it looks! Even better than Xrd! It looks like working on Dragon Ball and Kill la Kill sure helped them master this new graphics style & engine!
The team at NRS finally revealed some gameplay for the upcoming DLC character Shang Tsung, and it's even better than I hoped!
Shang Tsung can morph into most MK palette-swap ninjas, even those not available! And they're all using their original klassic look! Rain, Ermac, Reptile and Smoke can finally be playable that way! (which doesn't mean they won't be playable in my eyes, I mean he also turns into Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Noob, and they're in the game, so..)
And this trailer also announces the upcoming rest of the DLC Kombat Pack characters for this season, The long-rumored Spawn will acutally be a reality, and also returning characters Sindel and Nightwolf, and 2 more guests! Shang Tsung will arrive by June 18th.
Plus we're also getting the classic skins for the ninjas, which is awesome!
Ed Boon came to The Game Awards 2018 and announced a big surprise fans had be wishing for...
Mortal Kombat 11 is coming to PS4, Switch, Xbox One and PC next year!!
The game will be released on April 23rd, 2019. It will included a brand new customization mode (think Namco's Soulcalibur and Tekken series, perhaps..), as well as the return of the cinematic story mode continuing the series' lore exploration.
MK2 boss Shao Kahn is returning (playable as DLC/pre-order unlock).
