#Blog Wonder Boy/Monster World Complete Collection!

Here's something new, the "Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection" which basically contains every single entry in the WB/Monster World series, not counting for modern entries or remakes. Only really missing the Adventure Island Wonder Boy 1-inspired subseries, but the owners of that series are Hudson Soft, so I'm guessing the rights lie at Konami nowadays.

Anyways, made a little tribute video to show the goodies as well as my own collection of Wonder Boy / Monster World games:

#Blog Can you say GAIARES???

Here's a longtime-coming new release from Strictly Limited, the re-release of GAIARES for the Sega Mega Drive:

It looks fantastic, great loot.

I love how we both get a reprint of the iconic Ad T-shirt as well as an interview with the guy from the commercial.

And now I can complete my Renovation Games collection.

#Blog The Newest Mini Console

So I now this one was released a bit earlier this year, but money has been difficulty tight this year. Anyways I had set it aside to get it later this year/summer, and chance of mine I saw they cut down the prices of the console so I finally grabbed now The A500 mini.

I already posted about the other mini consoles lately, like the previous and similar Commodore 64 mini.

Another Amiga Commodore mini system inspired by a classic home computer console from way back when.
This one only has 25 titles, but a lot of great stuff thankfully.

The new mini console looks just as slick and lovely miniaturised if a bit more toy-ish and plastic than usual. The packaging is also lovely.

And here is the A500 Mini next to a Switch for scale...

The UI is pretty decent and comes with all the whistle and bells (save stats, etc.).

The system has a lot of classics from the 16-bit era (a lot I actually already had on the Sega Mega Drive).

Chaos Engine (Soldiers of Fortune), Worms, Zool, Flashback... a great selection. Pinball, vs fighter, racing, puzzle... Lots of genre titles covered here.

A nice innovation is that the system has a SD card slot so you can upload your own Roms without breaking or modding it for once.

All in all, not the best mini console (too plastic-y, very little game selection, if a great selection). But some iconic titles and the SD card slot is a nice addition. I'd say this is more for hardcore gamers and collectors than the usual mini systems.

#Blog Getting some new homebrew Mega Drive and NES titles

Just received a few new homebrew titles from Second Dimension. For both the NES as well as the Mega Drive.

Most importantly, the long-awaited Eyra, the Crow Maiden.

This year's been mostly new homebrew titles for me, very little "current gen" games... Oh,well.

#Blog SGG Super Battletank

How do we measure the success of an entertainment product? By how much money it make? By how many people it touched? By how much longevity it endured?

Well, I like the underrated stuff so I like to believe anything was successful as long as it left a little mark on history. As long as you remember things, how people will remember it even if it's still a niche product.

For example, I know the Game Gear never sold as much as the Game Boy, but I just found out how long the Game Gear actually lasted not long ago, after getting my hands on The Lost World for the SGG, a port of a 1997 game I remember playing on the Sega Saturn/PSX.

See, the Game Boy was launched in 1989 with Super Mario Land and Tetris, the Game Gear was then launched in 1990 with Pengo, Super Monaco GP and Columns. But while the Game Boy was replaced by updated revisions and other handheld systems, Sega never put out new versions of the Game Gear (just a parallel system, the Nomad which was just an handheld Mega Drive/Genesis). But Nintendo replaced the GB with the Game Boy Pocket in 1996, the Game Boy Color in 1998 and then the more powerful Game Boy Advance in 2001. Meanwhile the Game Gear would get few sporadic releases and only be officially discontinued in 2001.

So that means the SGG was technically still Sega's handheld while Sega was producing Dreancast games.

Case in point, I finally got my hands on Super Battletank. Pretty cheap actually, seems like they made a lot of copies of this one. Still sealed, as new. The game was released in 2001 for the Game Gear!!! I mean the GBA port was released in 2003, 2 years later.

Super Battletank was the last title officially released for the SGG. (Not counting post-releases of homebrew titles in the following years.)

Well, the game's just a tank sim, and not one of the better ones. There was other Super Battletank games, on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, Snes, etc. But I like how this one came out around the same time as Panzer Front on the Dreamcast, so I kinda consider this a port of that game.

That's it for a little bit of retro gaming & Sega history.

Oh, and the Game Gear outlasted the Game Boy. Ha!

(But it didn't outsold it, yes, we both know it.)

#Blog #NoMoreHeroes Collection from Pix'n Love+Limited Run

So I finally just received my copy #NoMoreHeroes3 from Pix'n Love.

It's a lovely collection that goes almost-well with Limited Run's re-releases of NMH 1 and 2.

Here's the content of the collector's edition.

Art artbook, some pics.. and that's basically all. No pin? No sticker? Not even the fantastic soundtrack??

And here's my entire No More Heroes collection.
Now I kinda wish they could do the other Grasshopper Manufacture's title the same justice. They already did the Silver Case. Weren't there rumors about a Killer 7 port on the Switch as well as Flower, Sun and Rain's..?

#Blog #PuppetCombo games (Physical set)

If you ever tried some of Puppet Combo's amazing retro PSX-styled horror titles, I'd recommend giving a look at their store.

Not only do they make a ton of great merch.

But they also have some vintage-styled physical releases of their games.

And they made a fantastic set of their first few games as well as some demos.

Highly recommended if you're a big fan of old school PSX-era survival horror games such as Silent Hill.

#Blog #Doom Classic Collection from Limited Run

After half a year of patiently waiting for it - I know, there's a whole pandemic, etc. - but I waiting for a long time for this one. In the meantime I received the Limited Run Games-as well re-release of Doom 64 on Switch. The Doom helmet replica. (Still waiting for a physical release of Doom Eternal on Switch.. one can dream!)

But here it is. The beautiful old school PC-style collector's box. A much better collection than the half-digital one on PS4 or the messy BFG Edition from last gen.

With a ton of lovely goodies - specially one piece I have a few words to say below!

The traditional steelbook. A Red Key replica (?) A keychain. A modern day-reprint of a floppy disk - gonna take out my floppy disk reader just for that one! I have to check it out!

And the FRIGGIN' DOOM COMIC?!! YESSSS!!!

RIIIIIP AND TEAAAAR!!

I suppose it's canon again now thanks to Doom Eternal's multiple references to it.

We almost have the complete (physical) Doom series on the Switch now!

COME ON, LIMITED RUN! Put it on a special bigger collector cartridge! And then you can put up a little boxset to collect all 4 games. Like you did with Shantae or Crysis!!

DO IT!!

And now let's go back to the main piece.

Let's be honest, I would have gotten this collection just for the reprint of the epic cult classic Doom comic!

It already was a rare piece, which most of us Doom fans read online on scans. GT Interactive never made much copies of it, back then.

And I already missed the first reprint when I missed the id Anthology, which annoyed me for years... (Containing modern CD physical copies of the Keen series as well!)

Now I had to grab this for this new reprint of the Rip And Tear-Classic.

And the colors and paper quality is great, so I'm super happy with it.

This is HUUUUUUGE!! Because it has HUUUUGE GUTS!!!

#Blog #MonkeyIsland Anthology Collection from Limited Run

So I recently received this beautiful collector Anthology Collection from Limited Run. The Monkey Island Anthology!

I remember pre-ordering this a whole full year ago.. but it was worth the wait. (Except for a little weird  error, more on that below..)

Yeah, so I already had the entire Monkey Island series on PC.. but now I got it twice!

Anyways, the collector is also a huge excuse to get all these little awesome goodies, long time fans will recognize all these references.

Numbered LRG edition, signed by Ron Gilbert!

This book is awesome, full of behind the scenes stuff and details!

They made the funny missing floppy for real?? Plus the content's also on the USB key.
I wasn't expecting much from this Guybrush figure, but he looks fantastic!
Best frame ever.

My only complaint? A weird error in the listing of the games on the side... I mean, didn't anyone check this before it went to print??

And now, here's my entire Monkey Island collection:

Enjoy!
