VGR Battles of Prince of Persia

And with this, I've officially properly reviewed the entire Prince of Persia franchise!

Will I move on to slightly related stuff like Jordan Mechner's other work or the Assassin's Creed series? Stay tuned for that!~

The Sands of Time are full of stories of Prince of Persias, Evil Vizirs and Gorgeous Princesses!

#DeletedScenes - Assassin’s Creed of Persia

Did you know we almost got a vastly different Assassin's Creed franchise?

It was back in 2004.
Simultaneously in development alongside Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones (read my review here!) which would see its release in 2005.
That third episode would actually end up in what you might call the inspiration for the scifi aspect of the Assassin’s Creed series, in a space not unlike the Animus.

While what we got in 2007 was an open world-action/adventure parkour-oriented stealth scifi-historical series, we almost got something closer to the Prince of Persia series which inspired it.
A more platformer/brawler focused Assassin's Creed.
Let's check it out!

VGR PoP Forgotten Sands [DS Version]

The Sands of Time Trilogy might have been closed with Two Thrones but with a new interest in the series thanks to a movie adaptation, Ubisoft thought it was a good commercial move to bring the series back in an all-new episode just for this time.

The game was released amongst most systems. In what I like to call the "Forgotten Sands chapters" (which would have made a much better title for this game IMO).
Like Untold tales or Missing chapters, all these games across the different consoles aren't the same but instead different episodes taking place in the 7 years gab between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within.
This is a review of the "DS version" available exclusively for the Nintendo DS system.

This is a review of the "Next Gen-version" available on Xbox 360, PC and PS3.

Warning though, this is in no-way a continuation of the 2008 installment, The Tree Of Life, which has been put on hold for this episode and the Assassin's Creed franchise taking all the resources and time at Ubisoft.

VGR:Quickies Ports of Persia

As you've probably seen on the blog, I've reviewed most Prince of Persia games already. (and comics...and movies..)

But this isn't all of them yet.
During this long running franchises, most episodes have known various releases on several platforms. If most releases nowadays are pretty similar to one another it wasn't always the case "back in the ol' days".

For this occasion, I decided to make this new Quickies installement!
To have a look at some iterations of the original Prince of Persia games by Jordan Mechner. As well as another bonus quick review.

MR Prince of Persia

By now, you've probably seen I'm sort of an expert on all-things Prince of Persia.
We've seen last time the comic book, but what about the movie adaptation?

Movies based on video games tend to suck, mostly because Hollywood decides to take the easy route and turn those into cash-ins. (and also, for some strange reason, adapt fighting games, which aren't the best type of narrative-filled games...)

Also, don't miss my previous PoP reviews (you can find listed on this page if I don't forget to update it sometimes...)

CBR Prince of Persia

After the renewed success of the PoP series, thanks to the Sands of Time series, it was finally time for the series to expand beyond video games and unto new mediums.

While a live movie was for a long time rumored to start development, Jordan Mechner, its original creator, started working on a comic book version.
And rather than adapting any of the game, it was to be its own original self-contained story. Another take on the legend.

Is it possible that maybe, the best Prince of Persia isn't a video game but a comic book?

VGR PoP Fallen King

Sometimes simply called "Prince of Persia" in some countries, without the subtitle like the 2008 reboot.
The Fallen King is a brand new episode in the PoP franchise.
Released around the same time, it is actually a sequel to the Tree of Life story. Taking place even further in the story, right after the Epilogue. (which was published even a year after down the line and bridging both games)

You probably know my love for "chibi" episodes in series, I had to get this one day-one!
How did it fare, and was it a worthy entry in the long running Prince of Persia series?

Blog - upcoming reviews planned

Hey gals 'n' guys.

Thought I'd take a moment today to tell ya some of the upcoming reviews I have planned for the blog.

First of all, I have more Prince of Persia reviews coming up. Amongst them; an handheld game, a comic, a movie and some "quickies".

Then again, more Duke Nukem. I'm playing through the ~15 years in the making sequel Duke Nukem Forever.
I started playing it before the bad reviews started raining. So I'm making my own opinion, as a fan who just recently played all the previous episodes.
(let's just say, I never expected great with such a consulted development.. and I smell some Gearbox-age over the game 3D Realms had almost finished last year..)
And I intend to review some of the other Duke games in the meantime.

Finally, comics.
Some more Ambush Bug coming up. And the Martian Manhunter probably. Nothing's really set in stone, I'll see what I want to do next first.

And that is all for now~

See ya around!
Subtle suggestive message > *visit the blog, follow it, leave feedback, bring in more people*

VGR PoP Tree of Life

What I call the "Tree of Life" is the 2008 iteration of the Prince of Persia series.
Simply called Prince of Persia, marking a clear separation from the 128-bits systems "Sands of Time" series. It is meant to be a new reboot for the franchise, the first installment in a whole new series.

Sometimes called "Prodigy", I like to use the above codename instead when mentioning this one.

It's a new beginning for the series, featuring new settings, an all-new Prince.
With no real attachment to the previous games, Ubisoft was able to reimagine PoP, create a new identity for the game, a new feel and new mechanics without relying on the past episodes.

And don't miss my other Prince of Persia reviews!

Drawings - The Prince

This is my (poor) attempt to capture Prince of Persia 2008 game's amazing colors and feel with a cartoony drawing :P

Lately, I've been in a constant PoP mood~

VGR PoP: Two Thrones

Taking directly after the previous PoP Warrior Within, The Two Thrones is the direct sequel and the final chapter in the "Sands of Time" series.

Sure, Ubi decided to ignore a perfectly closed and well rounded series to offer fans more spinoffs/episodes (I blame the fanboys). But was TT a good closing act to a well loved trilogy of modern platforming games?
What's good about it, what's bad about it?
Brand new review, below!

VGR PoP: Warrior Within

Finally!
I decided to continue my on-going reviews of the PoP series.

In the past, the second episode of the classic trilogy wasn't near as good as the original. How did this second episode of the second trilogy far off?

VGR PoP: The Sands of Time

I've actually already reviewed the original Prince of Persia trilogy.
Prince of Persia, The Shadow and the Flame and Arabian Nights.
I guess it was finally time I decide to move on the Sands of Time trilogy.

For most (younger) players, it was their first introduction to the PoP series, for me I was decided to not like this usurper. Brought to mainstream audience by Ubisoft of all the teams? (it was long before they became that huge blockbuster developer known for excellent titles such as Assassin's Creed and the likes nowadays)

So.... verdict?
