Let me take this occasion, this subjet, to make a little tangent.
Did you know the early Mortal Kombat games were mostly inspired by the 1970s Marvel Kung-Fu-sploitation comics? That's right. Back then there were no talks of big movie companies holding the IPs, etc. Netherrealm Studios, then-Midway, just took inspiration from all these classic comic book heroes to creatre their own kung-fu-inspired gory fighting game. And thus Iron Fist inspired Johnny Cage (even keeping his green-glowing iron fist into some of his signature attacks to this day). Luke Cage inspired Jaxx. And Shang-Chi inspired Liu Kang as the de-facto hero of the franchise. Several other comic book elements would then inspired other elements like Kano, Raiden and even the dragon-transformation-animality/brutality.
Anyways-
Now, I love Liu Kang in the recent Mortal Kombat games. I hope Shang-Chi is half as good, fun, heroic and badass as Liu Kang.
Looks off to a good start.
