And I love me some Crash Bandicoot whenever.
Since Naughty Dogs passed the torch down to Sierra/Vivendi Universal, we saw some good ones during the Xbox/PS2/Gamecube generation, such as Traveller's Tales episodes or Vicarious Vision's handheld and kart games. But then in this last gen, Radical gave sort a departure to the series going into a more beat 'em all/brawler direction.. which... I'm sure has its own fans... but so far off the series... And the series lies now dormant at Activision, who don't intend to ever use this great Ip, nor let it go to some more deserving company.
Anyways, did you know back in 2010 an attempt was made to bring back Crash Bandicoot to his former glory on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii?!
That's right!
Radical Entertainment was actually working on a much simpler "back to basics" reboot for Crash.
It would have kept some of the recent "Titans"-gimmicks, sure.
But visually it would have been a return to form, ditching the recent ugly redesigns & tattoos of the bandicoot for a more classic look. (actually, pretty close to his original Japanese representations)
And a return to platforming at heat!
But it got cancelled!
Why?
Because the team making it was fired by Activision Blizzard, that's why! (and the studio refocused on Call of Duty instead)
When you see what they did to Spyro nowadays... you can be glad Crash isn't being used anymore...though I wonder if they went through things with this one how much things would have changed... ?
The game hadn't even been officially announced but some info was leaked from the people working on it.
Crash 2010 was meant to be a 3D adventure/action platformer, much like Crash Twinsanity before it.
Enjoy these few videos, which showcase the game in development as well as some short gameplay segments , concept arts and some CGi.
One thing is sure... it was looking pretty promising!
Oh well~
-sigh-
